A knee pad adapted to cover the knee of a user is made from a single sheet of durable, pliable sheet material, or from a plurality of separate segments made of such sheet material. It comprises a body having an open side, an elbow section and a leg section, said elbow section and a leg section joined to form a corner. A strap member is attached to extends between opposed sides of the leg section that enables the user to secure the knee pad to the user's knee with the knee placed into the open side and seated against the corner. Outer edges of the leg and elbow section are each inwardly contoured forming a concave indentation respectively in each of these outer edges.

Knee pad and method of manufacture

The preferred embodiment of a masking apparatus is adapted to mask the overspray of a coating applied by a spraying device. In another aspect of the present invention, a coated article or part includes a member with an inner surface and at least one opening. The inner surface is sprayed with the coating. In yet another aspect of the present invention, the apparatus includes a deformable masking cup which is operably located adjacent to the opening in the article.

Masking apparatus

Direct drive variable displacement pumps that provide variable displacement wherein a swashplate pivots and changes the angle position in the direct drive variable displacement pumps. The swashplate is also capable of changing the stroke length of pistons in such direct drive variable displacement pumps and rotation of a rotating shaft is converted into axial or radial movement. In direct drive variable displacement pumps in accordance with the present invention, plungers and their respective plunger housings do not rotate relative to the rotating shaft while the swashplate rotates with rotating shaft. In addition, hydraulic control pistons are preferably used to change the angle of the swashplate and these hydraulic control pistons rotate with the rotating shaft. A first preferred embodiment of a direct drive variable displacement pump disclosed herein is an axial displacement type direct drive variable displacement pump while a second preferred embodiment of a direct drive variable displacement pump disclosed herein is a radial type direct drive variable displacement pump.

Direct drive variable displacement pump

An abrasive waterjet cutting system is monitored and controlled by measuring at least one process parameter and using that measurement as a comparison with a running average of the process parameter as it may change over time. Optionally, the rate of change of the process parameter may also be used to signal an emergency condition, and extreme outer limits of the process parameter may be used to define unacceptable operating conditions.

A separable nozzle body is provided in a quick change assembly including a feed tube handle making change possible without the use of tools, the separable nozzle body having included and aligned therein all the nozzle wear components.

Quick assembly waterjet nozzle

Described is a method of removing explosive agents from the interior of explosive agent filled bodies such as munitions shells. A rotating nozzle is inserted into an opening cut into the shell. Ultra-high pressure fluidjets (i.e. above 40,000 psi) are projected from orifices in the nozzle onto the explosive agent in the shell. Explosive agent and explosive agent laden fluid is contained and carried away from the shell for recycle or disposal.

A fluid jet system includes a nozzle body which has an axis. A nozzle is adjustably mounted within the nozzle body for dispersing fluid along a centerline. A first adjustment device adjusts the orientation of the nozzle relative to the nozzle body. A focusing tube is included. A second adjustment device positions the focusing tube, relative to the nozzle body, into alignment with the nozzle. One embodiment permits continual alignment of the focusing tube relative to the nozzle as the second adjustment device is being adjusted.

Adjustable fluid jet cleaner

A fluid jet cleaning system includes a nozzle body having an axis. A nozzle is adjustably mounted within the nozzle body, the nozzle disperses fluid streams along a centerline. An adjustment device adjusts a relative position between the centerline and the axis. The adjustment device includes longitudinally extendable rod members, configured to contact the nozzle to restrict motion of the nozzle towards each rod member. This adjustment system may be used in conjunction with regular fluid jet cutting systems or the abrasive cutting jet system. Abrasives are injected into the fluid within a chamber formed in the nozzle.

A seal for a fluid jet apparatus includes an assembly with a head portion and a stem portion. A body has a bore formed therein, the bore has an upstream portion of a first diameter, a downstream portion of a second diameter which is less than the first diameter and an axially extending converging portion which connects upstream and downstream portions. The stem portion has a lesser dimension that said second dimension. The stem portion is disposed within the downstream portion and the head portion is disposed within the upstream portion. The upstream portion extends for a considerable distance upstream of the head portion. A maximum cross section of the head portion is less than the first diameter and greater than the second diameter, and a surface to surface seal is formed between the head portion and the axially extending converging portion. This seal may be applied to either a nozzle or a swivel of a fluid jet assembly.

Fluid jet seal structure

A fluid discharge device comprises a nozzle. The nozzle is constructed from a first jewel such as a corundum or diamond. An aggregation of ions formed from a second material such as nickel, titanium or chromium are implanted onto a surface of the nozzle, whereby a useful lifetime of the nozzle with a fluid passing through the nozzle under high pressure, is increased.

Ion implantation for fluid nozzle

A waterjet cutting apparatus for limiting pressure spikes caused by hydraulic pressure surges. A hydraulic pump pressurizes hydraulic fluid used to operate the apparatus. An intensifier is driven by the pump. An on-off nozzle valve actuator is coupled to the pump and to the intensifier. First and second linkages are provided. The second linkage has a lost motion slot formed therein. An output control device is provided in the pump for controlling output from the pump and thus controlling the level of hydraulic fluid pressure admitted to the intensifier. A first control arm is coupled to the output control device and movable between a 'MAX' and 'MIN' position. An on-off nozzle actuator opens and closes the on-off nozzle valve remotely by way of the first linkage. A second control arm is coupled to the on-off nozzle valve actuator device and is movable between an 'ON' and an 'OFF' position. The first and second control arms are interconnected by the second linkage in such a way that the lost motion slot permits the first control arm to move from the 'MAX' to the 'MIN' position when the second control arm remains in the 'ON' position thereby suppressing pressure spikes.

Pressure spike suppressing apparatus

The fitting terminates an end of a high-pressure hose and comprises a coupling having a portion thereof inserted in the hose end, and a sleeve, enveloping both the hose end and the coupling inserted portion, crimped onto the hose end. A void obtains within the sleeve at the end of the hose, and a capillary hole formed in the sleeve (and in a circumferential wall of the coupling) communicates the void with the external surface of the sleeve. The hole, a weep hole, safely relieves fluid leakage or seepage from the void.

Disclosed is an apparatus for imparting only shear wave energy into the earth comprising a vibrating pad for connection to a mobile support, such as a wheeled vehicle, and means for vibrating the pad to impart at least two polarizations of shear wave energy into the earth. One such means includes azimuthally rotating the pad and/or the vibration energy generator.

The Assembly comprises a centrally-bored nozzle, a centrally-bored nozzle body, and a centrally-bored jet orifice element, the three being in substantially collinear alignment along a longitudinal axis. The nozzle body has a spherical-shaped socket in which is received a spherical-shaped body portion of the element. Further, the element has a straight shank portion, extending from the body portion, which projects into a void in the nozzle body subsisting between the element and the nozzle. Adjustment screws, in penetration of the nozzle body, are arrayed about the shank portion for manipulation to adjust the attitude of the shank portion relative to the longitudinal axis.

Fluid-jet-cutting nozzle assembly

The plunger of the high - pressure cylinder has a driving ram coupled at one end. The coupling includes an annular groove on the plunger end and a two - piece collar with inner ridge. A cup - shaped collar retainer and a snap ring retain the collar in the ram. The coupling eliminates bolting. The open cylinder end is shouldered and grooved to receive a sleeve, a multi - piece key, a seat, and a seal which assemble to receive, center, and seal the plunger in the high pressure cylinder. The seal assembly eliminates the need for a bolted cylinder end.
