In certain example embodiments, moisture sensors, defoggers, etc., and/or related methods, are provided. More particularly, certain example embodiments relate to moisture sensors and/or defoggers that may be used in various applications such as, for example, refrigerator/freezer merchandisers, vehicle windows, building windows, etc. When condensation or moisture is detected, an appropriate action may be taken (e.g., actuating windshield wipers, turning on a defroster, triggering the heating of a merchandiser door or window, etc.). Bayesian approaches optionally may be implemented in certain example embodiments in an attempt to improve moisture detection accuracy. For instance, models of various types of disturbances may be developed and, based on live data and a priori information known about the model, a probability of the model being accurate is calculated. If a threshold value is met, the model may be considered a match and, optionally, a corresponding appropriate action may be taken.

Multi-mode moisture sensor and/or defogger, and related methods

Refrigerator doors (which includes freezer doors) are provided for use in display areas where refrigerated merchandise (e.g., frozen or chilled food) is displayed. It is desired to increase energy efficiency of the doors and thus of the refrigerated display system, while at the same time reducing visible reflectance from the doors to make it easier for customers to see merchandise which is being displayed behind the transparent doors. Refrigerator doors according to certain example embodiments of this invention include one or more AR coatings, some of which may include a transparent conductive layer (e.g., ITO) so as to also function as a low-E coating.

A coated article is provided which may be heat treated (e.g., thermally tempered) in certain instances. In certain example embodiments, an interlayer of or including a metal oxide such as tin oxide is provided under an infrared (IR) reflecting layer so as to be located between respective layers comprising silicon nitride and zinc oxide. It has been found that the use of such a tin oxide inclusive interlayer results in significantly improved mechanical durability, thermal stability and/or haze characteristics.

There is provided a method of making a heat treated (HT) coated article to be used in shower door applications, window applications, or any other suitable applications where transparent coated articles are desired. For example, certain embodiments of this invention relate to a method of making a coated article including a step of heat treating a glass substrate coated with at least a layer of or including diamond-like carbon (DLC) and an overlying protective film thereon. In certain example embodiments, the protective film may be of or include both (a) an oxygen blocking or barrier layer, and (b) a release layer. Following and/or during heat treatment (e.g., thermal tempering, or the like) the protective film may be removed. Other embodiments of this invention relate to the pre-HT coated article, or the post-HT coated article.

Method of making heat treated coated article using diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating and protective film

Certain example embodiments of this invention relate to a window having anti-fungal/anti-bacterial properties and/or self-cleaning properties, and a method of making the same. In certain example embodiments, a silver based layer is be provided and the layer(s) located thereover (e.g., the zirconium oxide inclusive layer) are designed to permit silver particles to migrate/diffuse to the surface over time to kill bacteria/germs at the surface of the coated article thereby creating an anti-bacterial/anti-fungal effect. In certain example embodiments, silver may also or instead be mixed in with other material as the top layer of the anti-bacterial coating.

A coated article is provided which may be heat treated thermally tempered) in certain instances. A method of making a scratch resistant coated article which is also resistant to attacks by at least some fluorine-inclusive etchant(s) for at least a period of time is provided. In certain example embodiments, an anti-etch layer(s) is provided on a glass substrate in order to protect the glass substrate from attacks by fluorine-inclusive etchant(s), a scratch resistant layer of or including DLC is provided over the anti-layer(s), and a seed layer is provided between the anti-layer(s) and the scratch resistant layer so as to facilitate the adhesion of the scratch resistant layer while also helping to protect the anti-layer(s). Optionally, a base layer(s) or underlayer(s) may be provided under at least the anti-etch layer(s).

There is provided a method of making a heat treated (HT) coated article to be used in shower door applications, window applications, or any other suitable applications where transparent coated articles are desired. The method may include heat treating a glass substrate coated with at least a layer of or including diamond-like carbon (DLC) or other type of carbon, with a protective film thereon. In certain example embodiments, the protective film may be of or include a layer of or including SnOprior to HT. Optionally, a release layer of a material such as zinc oxide may be provided between the SnOand the DLC. Following and/or during heat treatment the SnOtransforms into SnO(y&#x3e;x) so that stress is created due to the SnOto SnOtransition. Then, during quenching, stress relief may occur which causes the layer to buckle, creating cracks which may act as liquid channels that permit the sacrificial film to be easily removed via washing or the like.

There is provided a method of making a heat treated (HT) coated article to be used in shower door applications, window applications, or any other suitable applications where transparent coated articles are desired. The method may include heat treating a glass substrate coated with at least a layer of or including diamond-like carbon (DLC) or other type of carbon, with an oxygen barrier layer provided thereon directly or indirectly. Optionally, a release layer of a material such as zinc oxide or the like may be provided between the oxygen barrier layer and the DLC. In certain example embodiments, the oxygen content of at least part of the protective film when deposited may be determined based on whether the coated surface is to be bent in a convex manner, to be bent in a concave manner, or to remain flat. Following heat treatment, which may include bending the coated surface into a convex or concave shape, and quenching, the protective film may be removed by washing or the like.
