Methods, systems, and devices for a functional cover are described. A removable cover (e.g., a functional cover) for a wearable ring device (e.g., a ring wearable) may include one or more electrical components positioned at least partially within the removable cover. The removable cover may further include a first electrical component exposed to an external surface of the removable cover, the first electrical component configured to contact (e.g., physical and electrically contact) a second electrical component of the wearable ring device, such as when the removable cover is in a mounted state on the wearable ring device. The first electrical component may be further configured to transfer electrical current, data, or both, between the one or more electrical components of the removable cover and one or more additional electrical components of the wearable ring device.

Methods, systems, and devices for a functional cover are described. A removable cover (e.g., a functional cover) for a wearable ring device (e.g., a ring wearable) may include one or more electrical components positioned at least partially within the removable cover. In some cases, the functional cover may wireless connect with the ring wearable. The removable cover may further include a first inductive component within the removable cover, where the first inductive component is configured to wirelessly communicate with a second inductive component of the wearable ring device when the removable cover is in a mounted state on the wearable ring device. The first inductive component of the removable cover may be configured to transfer electrical current, data, or both, between the one or more electrical components of the removable cover and one or more additional electrical components of the wearable ring device.

A three-dimensional (3D) print engine includes (A) a plurality of walls laterally defining a build chamber, (B) a build box including a build plate, (C) a powder dispenser, (D) a beam system for fusing layers of powder, (E) a peripheral plate disposed between the build plate and the plurality of walls and having an upper surface, (F) a gas inlet that ejects a gas flow stream that passes over the build plate and the peripheral plate, (G) a gas outlet that receives the gas flow stream, (H) a plurality of projecting structures mounted to and extending above the upper surface of the peripheral plate, and (I) a gas handling system coupled to the gas inlet and gas outlet. The plurality of projecting structures shape the flow field of the gas flow stream to provide a more uniform velocity of gas flow velocities above the build plane.

An automated system for identifying a watering zone malfunction includes a sensor and a controller. The watering zone includes a valve that couples an input conduit to an output conduit. The output conduit terminates at one or more water distributors. The sensor is for capturing mechanical perturbations of the watering zone. The controller is configured to: store a profile defining at least one profile parameter based upon a transient operation of the zone in an intact state, receive the signal from the sensor during a watering operation when the zone is in an unknown state, compute a operation parameter based upon the signal for at least one time window of receiving the signal, determining a malfunction exists, and determine whether to take further action based upon the comparison.

Automated irrigation malfunction diagnostic system

A device and methods of using the device to provide timing and detection of the finish line for a sporting event are described. The device makes use of a Doppler radar transducer to detect the user as they approach and pass the finish line. In some embodiment the device further includes sensors that detect false starts and measure physiological parameters of the user during the event.

Finish line sensor device

A sensor system and method of using the system synergistically to improve the accuracy and usefulness of measured results is described. The system is comprised of electronically linked components that act as markers to trigger events, producers that gather data from sensors and aggregators that combine the data from a plurality of producers using triggers from marker devices to select the data of interest. The system is shown to be applicable to selection of data regions of interest and to analysis of the data to improve accuracy. The analysis of the data of any particular sensor within the system makes use of extrinsic data, being data generated by other sensors and intrinsic data, that is data or data limits that are known to be true from nature, laws of physics or just the particular information the user wants to acquire. The system is demonstrated on the analysis of Doppler radar measurements of a thrown object.

Intelligent sensor system

Sensing when an inkjet printer is out of ink during printing is disclosed. Buffer color information for a swath to be printed next on a sheet by the printer is evaluated. The printed color information for the swath is then measure as the swath is printed on the sheet. If the printer color information is less than substantially equal to the buffer color information, one or more out-of-ink actions, such as notifying the user and/or aborting printing, are performed. A printer performing such sensing is also disclosed.

A calibration technique, for a printer having a plurality of different color ink printheads, which includes printing and scanning a test pattern. The test pattern is printed by each printhead printing a plurality of swaths having a length and distanced apart from each other. An optical sensor is used to scan the printed test pattern. Calibration is performed for each head by reading the swath length and the relative spacing of the swath and comparing the length to the spacing. This comparison is used to find the directional error for each head.

Use of very small advances of printing medium for improved image quality in incremental printing

A misalignment compensation technique for a dot printer is disclosed. This technique first supplies printing instructions to a printhead for energizing printing elements in various groups (primitives) to print a pattern on a medium. The printed pattern is then detected by optical sensors in the printer. Based on the detection, a position offset error for each primitive is determined. These errors are used to generate a separate time correction for each of the primitives such that, when the printer is used normally, the time period for printing a dot will be advanced or delayed for each primitive so as to align the dots printed by the primitives. In another embodiment, alignment data taken by a manufacturing line sensor is stored in a memory on the print cartridge. After the print cartridge is installed in the printer, a second optical test completes the data needed to create timing correction values.

Techniques to compensate for random and systematic errors when measuring dot placement errors. Error accumulation due to scan axis irregularities during printhead calibration is minimized by swapping alignment block positions on the print medium from swath to swath. Print media advances during the calibration are minimized by the use of a moving reference instead of a constant reference; adjacent groups of nozzles are used to calibrate the following group. Only a small media advance is needed to print alignment blocks using adjacent nozzle groups one beside the other to be calibrated. To prevent paper slip accumulative errors when using moving references, the order of the groups of nozzles is swapped from one paper advance to the other. This randomizes for small, unavoidable slips when advancing the paper and prevents error accumulation. No further paper advances are used at all for the rest of the dot placement calibration (odd to even columns in a print-head, pen to pen correction and bidirectional correction). When calibrating X-axis position for a group of nozzles, a group of nozzles located at the same Y-axis coordinate is used, so that no paper advances are needed to print them one beside the other.
