Wellbore treatment fluids are provided that include an aqueous component and an amphiphilic hyperbranched copolymer comprising the polymerized reaction product of at least a first monomer and a second monomer, where the first monomer comprises at least one surface reactive end group chosen from the group consisting of carboxylates, phosphonates, sulfonates, and zwitterions. Also provided are methods of modifying subsurface energy of a carbonate formation using the wellbore treatment fluids.

A composition includes an ionic liquid monomer having the following structure: where n is an integer from 1 to 5 and the ionic liquid monomer has a melting point less than 100&#xb0; C. A method of making the ionic liquid includes providing a mixture comprising a sulfonic acid and a diamine in a solvent, and maintaining the mixture at a temperature ranging from 10 to 80&#xb0; C. for a time ranging from 1 to 10 hours to form an ionic liquid monomer having a melting point less than 100&#xb0; C. A method of making a polymer from the ionic liquid monomer is also provided.

Compositions and methods for increasing a stimulated reservoir volume in a hydrocarbon-bearing formation in fluid communication with a wellbore, one method including drilling a plurality of lateral extensions at varying depths in the formation extending from a vertical wellbore using slickwater hydraulic fracturing fluid, the slickwater hydraulic fracturing fluid comprising at least one friction reducer; and injecting an exothermic reaction component into the plurality of lateral extensions to create a plurality of fractures extending outwardly from and between the plurality of lateral extensions to create a multilateral fracture network.

A method of stimulating petroleum production includes introducing a fracturing fluid into a petroleum formation, thereby creating at least one fracture to stimulate the petroleum production. The fracturing fluid is introduced into the petroleum formation at a pressure above the breakdown pressure of the formation. The fracturing fluid includes a plurality of proppants where from 1 to 50 wt. % of the plurality of proppants includes micro proppants having a particle size ranging from 0.5 to 150 &#x3bc;m, and from 50 to 99 wt. % of the plurality of proppants includes macro proppants having a particle size greater than 100 mesh.
