A web press system including a first printbar, a first sensor, a second printbar, a second sensor, and a controller. The first printbar prints first user content on a first side of a web of media. The first sensor senses a pattern on the web of media and provides first sensor data as the first printbar prints the first user content. A second printbar prints second user content on the first side of the web of media. The second sensor senses the pattern on the web of media and provides second sensor data as the second printbar prints the second user content. The controller determines an amount of expansion of the web of media in a direction perpendicular to a web advanced direction based on the first sensor data and the second sensor data and modifies printing performed by the second printbar based on the amount of expansion.

Modifying printing based on cross-web distortions

In one example a method is disclosed for printing duplex images. The method includes printing an image on side A of media, including an alignment mark. Detecting the alignment mark with a sensor. The velocity of the media is determined when the alignment mark is detected. Printing an image on side B of the media where the location of the image on side B is dependent on the velocity of the media. In another example a printer is disclosed that uses the method to print duplex images.

An example system includes a print engine to print a first image on a medium. The system also includes a controller communicatively coupled with the print engine. The controller is to detect a failure in the print engine that results in a defect in the first image. The controller also is to perform an affine transformation on a second image to produce a transformed second image. The controller is to instruct the print engine to print the transformed second image.

Image transformations based on defects

An example system includes a controller. The controller is to determine a first end point of a previous frame in a first image. The first image is to be printed on a first ribbon. The controller is to determine a second end point of the previous frame in a second image to be printed on a second ribbon. The controller is to create a current frame containing first image data from the first image starting after the first end point, second image data from the second image starting after the second end point, and third image data from a beginning of the first image. The system includes an image engine to form an image corresponding to the current frame on a medium.

An example method for operating a printing system in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure includes receiving, at a printing unit, a print job, receiving, at the printing unit, a trigger generated by a finishing unit, and initiating the print job based on the generated trigger.

A method of increasing data flow to a printing device includes, with a first raster image processor, converting a document into a first bitmap having a first dot density and representing a black color plane of the document; with a second raster image processor, converting the document into a second bitmap at a second dot density that is a relatively lower dot density than that of the first bitmap, the second bitmap representing other color planes of the document; and transmitting data of the first and second bitmaps to a printing device for printing to a print medium.

Data flow to a printing device

A technique includes in a machine, processing data indicative of a document to be printed by a printer and which may contain magnetic ink character recognition (MICR) characters to determine whether the data indicates any MICR characters. The technique includes comparing a result of the determination to an intent indicated by a job ticket associated with the document; and controlling the printing of the document by the printer, including selectively performing corrective action in response to the comparison.

A method for applying a bonding agent for supplemental ink includes, with a control system of a printing apparatus, determining regions of an image corresponding to regions where a supplemental ink is to be printed, and with the control system, adding an amount of pixels of a standard color channel to portions of a bitmap representing the image, the portions corresponding to the regions where the supplemental ink is to be printed. The amount of pixels is sufficient to trigger application of a bonding agent at the regions.

A printer, system, method and computer program for printing, the printer comprising: a media database arranged to store print media data; a web service system arranged to implement a web service; and communication means for communicating data stored in the media database to a user via the web service. The printing supports media extensibility, and information relating to the printing media, such as color profiles, can be communicated between a user and the printer via a web service.
