Live migration of a virtual machine (VM) includes establishing multipath connections between the VM and functions of host interface on a source host. The multipath connections include a passthrough path and a software-virtualized (or emulated) path provided by a hypervisor of the source host. A failover of the passthrough path to the emulated path is executed, and a state of the emulated path is thereafter saved. On a host interface of a destination host, functions corresponding to those of the source host are exposed. The VM is then migrated from the source host to the destination host. The VM resumes host interface communication with the host interface of the destination host from the saved state via an emulated path provided by a hypervisor of the destination host. After resuming communication, a passthrough path of communication between the VM and the host interface of the destination host is established.

A computer implemented method for assessing endpoint security includes identifying a size of exposed PCIe space corresponding to a system of interest comprising one or more endpoints, determining an observable state of correct functionality for the system, generating random transaction layer packets corresponding to the endpoint, injecting the generated transaction layer packets, monitoring the system following the injection of the generated transaction layer packets for erroneous patterns exhibited by the system, and reporting the erroneous patterns exhibited by the system. A corresponding computer program product and computer system are also disclosed.

Fuzzing based security assessment

A system and method for reducing the number of aborts caused by a runtime helper being called during the execution of a transaction block. When a runtime helper is called during the execution of a transaction block while a program using hardware transactional memory is running, the runtime helper passes ID information indicating the type of runtime helper to an abort handler. When there is an abort caused by a call to a runtime helper, the abort handler responds by acquiring the ID information of the runtime helper that caused the abort, disables the transaction block with respect to a specific type of runtime helper, executes the non-transactional path corresponding to the transaction block, and re-enables the transaction block when predetermined conditions are satisfied.

An apparatus includes a processor for executing instructions at runtime and instructions for dynamically compiling the set of instructions executing at runtime. A memory device stores the instructions to be executed and the dynamic compiling instructions. A memory device serves as a trace buffer used to store traces during formation during the dynamic compiling. The dynamic compiling instructions includes a next-executing-cycle (N-E-C) trace selection process for forming traces for the instructions executing at runtime. The N-E-C trace selection process continues through an existing trace-head when forming traces without terminating a recording of a current trace if an existing trace-head is encountered.
