A Divided Chamber combustion system comprising an energy-cell built in the bottom of a deep piston bowl; aligned in the cylinder's centerline; in fluid communication with the main combustion chamber through one main transfer passage disposed in its centerline and a plurality of auxiliary transfer passages circularly disposed around it. Each auxiliary transfer passage is at least inclined on a plane parallel to the cell's centerline. The injection nozzle, centrally-located in the fire deck of the cylinder head, includes a central pintle discharging fuel on the cylinder's centerline; and a plurality of small auxiliary orifices circularly surrounding the central pintle; discharging at a radial angle to the cylinder's centerline.

Energy-cell combustion system

An improved combustion system particularly for a larger type diesel engine featuring a prechamber with a generally cup-shaped bottom tip portion facing the engine's main combustion chamber and with a central transfer passage substantially aligned with the centerline of the prechamber and a plurality of additional transfer passages circumferentially arranged about the centerline of the prechamber. The improved complete combustion system uses a piston with a deep bowl formed in the piston crown into which the central transfer passage directs a strong direct charge of products of combustion from the prechamber.

Prechamber combustion system

A ball-nut transmission in which each of the balls used for transferring drive between a shaft member and a nut member are encapsulated between a hemispherical cavity formed in one of the members and a helical groove provided in the other of the members.

Ball-nut transmission

A new and improved two-part phase changing device which has an axially movable quill shaft extending through a hollow camshaft and has one end of the quill shaft directly connected to the hub member of the timing gear through straight splines and has the other end of the quill shaft connected by helical splines to the camshaft so that axial movement of the quill shaft provided by a ball nut transmission located adjacent the helical splines of the quill shaft serves to angularly reposition the camshaft a predetermined distance upon actuation of an electric stepper motor.

Phase changing device

A camshaft drive that is provided with a timing drive assembly at the front end of an internal combustion engine and a control assembly at the rear end of the engine characterized in that a portion of the control assembly is capable of being a self-contained unit which is easily mounted to the cylinder head of the engine through a simple attachment arrangement.

Camshaft drive device for an internal combustion engine

A camshaft phase controlling device which has a quill shaft extending through a hollow camshaft and has one end of the quill shaft directly connected to the drive gear with the other end of the quill shaft formed with helical splines that are connected through a connector member to straight splines formed on the inside diameter of the hollow camshaft so that axial movement of a connector member located between the helical splines and the straight splines serves to rotate the camshaft a predetermined distance upon actuation of an electric stepper motor.

Two-part variable valve timing mechanism

A combustion system for a divided chamber engine that incorporates a pre-combustion chamber disposed to one side of the cylinder and that communicates with the main combustion chamber through two diverging transfer passages the open ends of which are aimed to direct the discharge from the pre-combustion chamber towards the sides of the combustion chamber and not at the center of the piston or the exhaust valve wherein the localized temperature at the piston's center is reduced and the exhaust valve temperature is not elevated.

Divided chamber diesel combustion system

An improved delivery valve for a plunger type fuel distribution pump characterized by ease of manufacture, lightness, and enhance performance in achieving both a check valve function and a retraction volume function. Specifically, previous machined constructions utilized a conically configured check valve and machined grooves which in the improved design are replaced by a commercially available high-precision, smoothly finished steel bearing ball element and by lightweight, tubular stem design.

A pre-combustion chamber for an internal combustion engine that is provided with a flow enhancing member which located in the interior of the pre-combustion chamber and permits the pre-combustion chamber to absorb additional heat energy during the combustion cycle while creating more efficient transfer of gases between the main combustion chamber of the engine and the interior of the pre-combustion chamber.

A tappet assembly for use with a valve train mechanism of an internal combustion engine that has angulated intake and exhaust valves actuated by the lobes of a pair of camshafts characterized in that the lobe of each camshaft serves to move the associated valve through an inverted bucket tappet incorporating a cylindrical force transmitting element which includes a surface that is skewed or inclined with respect to the bottom of the body of the tappet.

Tappet assembly for the valve train of an internal combustion engine

An insulated pre-combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine in which a piston is disposed in a cylinder for reciprocal movement relative to the cylinder. A cylinder head is provided over the cylinder and piston to form a main combustion chamber and the pre-combustion chamber is located in the cylinder head above the main combustion chamber. The pre-combustion chamber includes a pair of rigidly interconnected housing members with transfer passages formed in the lower housing member for connecting the pre-combustion chamber with the main combustion chamber. At least one insulation member is located between the upper and lower housing members and the cylinder head for reducing the heat loss from the pre-combustion chamber.

Insulated precombustion chamber

A camshaft timing device includes a camshaft 10 and a drive gear 20 rotatably mounted thereon. An interconnecting shifting shaft 30 has spline 31 and 33 that interconnect with respective splines 16 and 41 on the camshaft and a hub of a drive gear 20. Axial movement of the shaft 30 causes the shaft to rotate the camshaft 30 with respect to the drive gear 20 due to the helical nature of the splines 33 and 41. The axial movement of the shaft 30 is caused by a drive sleeve 50 connected to a pinion gear that is driven through a worm gear 63 by an electric motor 67.
