A multiple bill escrow and storage apparatus provides in combination: a validator unit for validating paper money bills which has an outlet through which each accepted bill is ejected; a receiver of bills from the validator unit; a conveyor disposed near the receiver, the conveyor being capable of moving a bill from the validator unit to a handling station; an escrow box disposed adjacent the handling station, the escrow box having a retaining device for holding multiple bills therein; a transfer device mounted at the handling station for transferring a bill from the conveyor into the escrow box, the transfer device comprising a pusher reciprocally movably mounted opposite the escrow box; a vault mounted adjacent the escrow box; an actuating device coupled to the transfer device for selectively transferring a bill into the escrow box and from the escrow box into the vault, the actuating device being capable of driving the pusher through the conveyor to push the bill from the conveyor into the escrow box; a mechanism for reciprocally moving the escrow box between the handling station and an ejection station; and an ejecting device disposed at the ejection station for ejecting the bills contained in the escrow box wherein the ejected bill are ejected in a folded state.

Multiple bill escrow and storage apparatus

A cash collection receptacle for receiving coins and paper currency from a farebox is disclosed. The receptacle is comprised of a five-sided steel cashbox with two inner chambers which receive coins and currency separately from the farebox. The cashbox has disposed therein a lock assembly into which a slidable steel cover is engaged by means of a rotatable control handle to lock the cashbox.

Cash collection receptacle

A fare collection system including a fare box having a coin singulating and counting device in the upper portion thereof and paper receiving means in the upper portion thereof, a secure cash box in the pedestal of the fare box for receiving the coins and paper and having lock mechanism for locking the cash box in the pedestal so long as the cash box is open and a cover for closing the cash box prior to removal thereof from the pedestal; a master vault having an upper compartment for receiving the cash box in the inverted position and lock mechanism for locking the cash box in the upper compartment during the emptying thereof, a lower compartment for the master vault having a cash container removably positioned therein, aligned openings in the upper and lower compartments communicating with an opening in the top of the cash container, a closure member for the cash container, and lock mechanism for holding the cash container in the lower compartment when the closure member is open and for locking the closure member in the closed position for removal of the cash container from the master vault.

Fare collection system and components thereof

A fare collection system using a bus fare box that receives and counts paper currency and paper transfers and tickets into a paper collection chamber and receives and counts coins into a coin collection chamber and receives and collects operating data into a data storage unit, the operating data including fare classification, bus identification and mileage; a secure coupling is made to the fare box chambers and the data storage unit after satisfying mechanical and pneumatic and electrical security devices so as pneumatically to convey from the chambers the papers and coins therein to a central processing unit and to convey the data stored in the data storage unit to a data collection center; the paper is first conveyed in an air stream and separated from the air stream and deposited into a storage vault therefor, after which the coins are conveyed to a coin slowdown device and then discharged to a sorter-counter-recorder for coins and then to a secure storage vault, the air stream being pulsed during conveying of the paper and the coins to prevent clogging and clinging thereof to the walls of the various conduits through which the air stream passes; the intensity of the air stream is decreased during the conveying of the paper, increased during the conveying of the coins and thereafter again decreased and an air stream is directed countercurrent to the coins during dumping thereof into the coin-sorter-recorder to separate any retained paper therefrom; there also is disclosed a novel fare box, a novel paper counter-measurer, a novel extractor coupling, a novel slowdown mechanism, a novel coin sorter-counter and a novel fare box coin registering device.

Coin Assorter

A coin sorter-counter comprising a stack of plates mounted for rotation about an axis inclined to the horizontal with a housing therearound having coin openings therein, coin pockets arranged around each plate for catching coins, a resilient wheel for each of the plates to move coins from the pockets through the housing openings, and coin sensors associated with each of the coin openings for counting the coins passing therethrough; also provided is overload protection for each of the coin sorting plates, and a sensor for detecting jams and reversing the drive motor to clear the jam.

Coin sorter-counter

Slowdown mechanism is provided in a fare collection system pneumatically conveying coin and paper money from a fare box to a storage vault. The air stream carrying the contents of the fare box is conveyed into the top of a downwardly inclined slowdown chamber having an outlet door at the lower end thereof. Paper is drawn off from the slowdown chamber upwardly through a paper-air conduit. A valve is disposed between the slowdown chamber and the outlet door thereof. Automatic control mechanism opens the valve and the door when paper is being conveyed from the fare box, closes the valve and door when coins are being conveyed and opens the valve and door to empty coins from the slowdown chamber into the associated storage vault.
