Various implementations disclosed herein enable malleable routing for data packets. For example, in various implementations, a method of routing a type of data packets is performed by a device. In some implementations, the device includes a non-transitory memory and one or more processors coupled with the non-transitory memory. In some implementations, the method includes determining a routing criterion to transmit a set of data packets across a network. In some implementations, the method includes identifying network nodes and communication links in the network that satisfy the routing criterion. In some implementations, the method includes determining a route for the set of data packets through the network nodes and the communication links that satisfy the routing criterion. In some implementations, the method includes configuring the network nodes that are on the route with configuration information that allows the set of data packets to propagate along the route.

Malleable routing for data packets

A method for managing routing tables and data packet forwarding is disclosed. The method comprises obtaining, at a networking device, a first outgoing label associated with one or more output port identifiers of the networking device. The first outgoing label identifies a first destination node. The one or more output port identifiers identify one or more of a plurality of output ports. The method further comprises determining whether or not the one or more output port identifiers are also associated with a second outgoing label. The second outgoing label identifies a second destination node different from the first destination node. The method further comprises merging, into a next hop table allocated in a non-transitory memory, the first outgoing label with the second outgoing label in response to determining that the one or more output port identifiers are also associated with the second outgoing label.

Managing routing tables

Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for fast convergence for virtual ethernet segments in EVPN and PBB-EVPN networks are disclosed. A first provider edge (PE) device can receive one or more advertising messages corresponding to one or more virtual ethernet segments, wherein each of the one or more advertising messages can include a port identifier. The first PE device maintains a table including the one or more virtual ethernet segments and the corresponding port identifier. The first PE device can receive a failure message from a second PE device that identifies a first port on the second PE device, and identifies, based on the table, at least one affected virtual ethernet segment that is associated with the first port. The first PE device can remove any routes that are associated with the at least one affected virtual ethernet segment and trigger mass designated-forwarding election for impacted virtual ethernet segments.

Fast convergence for failures of large scale virtual ethernet segments in EVPN and PBB-EVPN

Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for flushing of Customer Media Access Control (C-MAC) addresses in a PBB-EVPN network are disclosed. A first provider edge (PE) device can maintain a plurality of service instances configured on a first interface. The first PE device can detect at least one failed ethernet virtual circuit (EVC) on the first interface and identify at least one service instance from the plurality of service instances that is associated with the at least one failed EVC. The PE device can send, to a second PE device, a C-MAC flush notification message that identifies the at least one service instance and the message can cause the second PE device to remove C-MAC addresses corresponding to the at least one service instance and the B-MAC address for the first interface.

Mechanism for optimized customer MAC address flushing in PBB-EVPN

A method is provided in one example and includes determining a bandwidth level associated with a link, which is provided between a first microwave transceiver and a second microwave transceiver. The link is part of a communication ring containing multiple Ethernet ring protection elements. The method also includes comparing the bandwidth level associated with the link to a threshold level. A fail-over can be triggered for a selected one of the plurality of Ethernet ring protection elements if the bandwidth is below the threshold level. In certain example embodiments, the first microwave transceiver and the second microwave transceiver can implement an adaptive modulation protocol on the link.

System and method for ring protection switching over adaptive modulation microwave links

A network device receives packets for one or more traffic flows to be sent into a network. The network device computes a flow identifier for each of the one or more traffic flows based on information contained in one or more headers of the packets for each of the one or more traffic flows and based on at least one value that is changed on an ongoing basis. The packets for each of the one or more traffic flows are encrypted to produce encrypted packets for each of the one or more traffic flows. An encapsulation is added to the encrypted packets for the one or more traffic flows. The flow identifier is included in a field of the encapsulation for a corresponding traffic flow.

Traffic flow identifiers resistant to traffic analysis

In one embodiment, a packet switching device receives a notification that a link has a diminished packet transport capacity. In response, the packet switching devices changes forwarding information for a portion of the packet traffic being sent over the diminished packet transport capacity link to traverse one or more reroute paths not including the diminished link, while some packet traffic continues to use the diminished packet transport capacity link. This notification can be received directly from a communications device, or via a routing protocol such as for a remote link that sent packet traffic may traverse. These rerouted paths may be precomputed and installed in forwarding data structures for fast rerouting, or computed and installed in response to receiving the notification. In one embodiment, quality of service (QoS) is adjusted in response to receiving the notification.

Protecting packet traffic in a network including an adaptive bandwidth link

A method is provided in one example embodiment and includes generating a test port in a network environment, positioning the test port on a network element, associating the test port with a bridge domain, and configuring a maintenance point (MP) on the test port. The method further includes using the MP on the test port for connectivity fault management (CFM) operations at a test level.
