Improved systems and methods for diagnosing an injury of a patient. The system and methods provide for more accurate scans of the injury thereby enabling a combat medic, a medical technician, or even untrained individuals to quickly diagnose the injury. By providing more accurate information, the systems and methods provide the technician with additional information regarding treatment options, such as whether to transport the patient or treat the patient in place, potential for aspiration, and other information about dangerous fluid build-up such as size, depth, and types of surrounding tissues, thereby increasing survivability of the patient. The systems and methods can also provide a diagnosis of the injury as well as suggestions on actions to take to treat the patient.

Systems and methods for the detection of fluid build-up resulting from an injury using ultrasound imaging

An umbrella-like scraper for cleaning tubes and pipes may include a scraper, an actuator and a hinge configured for selective deployment of the scraper by manipulation of the actuator.

Method and apparatus for cleaning a tube

An embodiment of the invention provides a method to measure fluid within a body cavity where data is received with an interface (), the data being received from an ultrasound transducer. A three-dimensional sonographic image is generated with an image generator () connected to the interface (), the three-dimensional sonographic image being generated from the data from the ultrasound transducer. The body cavity is identified in the three-dimensional sonographic image with an image processor () connected to the image generator (); and, an area of fluid in the body cavity in the three-dimensional sonographic image is identified with the image processor (). The volume of the area of fluid is calculated using the three-dimensional sonographic image and a stacked crescents process, a spherical fill process, a convex hull process, and/or a triangulation process.

Automated three and four-dimensional ultrasound quantification and surveillance of free fluid in body cavities and intravascular volume

A cleaning tube may have an expansion portion that includes two or more slits. The cleaning tube may be deployed by linearly compressing the expansion portion, thus causing the tube to bulge into a disc through expansion of the slits. A sheath may cover the expansion portion to seal the slits. So deployed, the cleaning tube may be translated in a contaminated tube to remove contamination.

An embodiment of the invention provides a method including obtaining ultrasonic images of one or more vessel to be catheterized with an ultrasonic imaging deviceand identifying the center(s) of the vessel(s) with the ultrasonic images. One of the vessels is punctured with a needlebased on the identifying of the center of the vessel. A guide wireis inserted into the vessel and maneuvered with guide wire ultrasonic feedback control. The guide wire ultrasonic feedback control includes obtaining ultrasonic images of the vessel and the guide wirein the vessel, and displaying the ultrasonic images of the vessel and the guide wirein the vessel to a user. A catheter sheathis inserted over the guide wireand maneuvered with sheath ultrasonic feedback control. The guide wireis removed and a catheteris inserted into the catheter sheathand maneuvered with catheter ultrasonic feedback control.

Vascular targeting system

A system for assessing lung function in a patient is enclosed. The oxygen delivery system in the system (e.g., a ventilator or portable standalone system) preferably includes an oximeter sensor for receiving SpO2 from a patient. The assessing lung function in a patient includes an FiO2 adjust algorithm operable in logic circuitry in the ventilator that can control an oxygen fraction FiO2 provided to the patient in a closed loop fashion. In a preferred example, the algorithm controls FiO2 using the SpO2, but also displays a ratio of SpO2-to FiO2 (S/F) as a function of time. One or more S/F ratio threshold may be used to allow the clinician and/or the algorithm to understand a degree of lung injury, and to allow the algorithm to adjust FiO2 appropriately. Preferably, the algorithm keeps SpO2 to a range of 88-95%.

Smart oxygenation system employing automatic control using SpO2-to-FiO2 ratio

Disclosed are systems and methods to provide a patient care recommendation. The systems and methods receive patient information and a plurality of patient physiological signals that are related to a patient. The systems and methods are then operable to produce at least one derived patient signal from at least one of the plurality of patient physiological signals. The systems and methods use the patient information, at least one of the plurality of patient physiological signals, and the at least one derived patient signal to provide at least one patient care recommendation.

Patient care recommendation system

An embodiment of the invention provides a method for identifying internal trauma in a patient for pneumothorax, hemothorax and abdominal hemorrhage using ultrasound in B-modes with radial, longitudinal, phased array probes, and with M-mode for verification of lung sliding and lung point. Identifications are based on statistical classifications of image features, including A-line, B-line, lung sliding, barcode, sky, seashore, and beach patterns. For blood pools, a polygon is fitted to the boundary, and a cellular automaton extracts local interference patterns due to cavity shape. Logic is then applied to extractions to identify the trauma. With B-mode, feature extraction involves specialized algorithms operating at frame rate for tracking of features such as ribs and rib shadows, pleural line and fast changes in peak intensities along the pleural line. Results are presented on screen by means of highlighting and textual cues.

Automatic focused assessment with sonography for trauma exams

A glove liner includes a pad running diagonally across the palm of the hand. When the glove liner is inserted into a baseball fielder's glove, the pad underlies a heel of the glove and/or a palm of the glove and promotes catching a baseball in the webbing or pocket of the fielder's glove.

A system for operating a semi-closed loop and/or a closed loop resuscitation of a burn patient in view of patient information and other physiological data gathered by the system. The system in at least one embodiment includes an urine sensor, an infusion pump and a processor that controls the operation of the infusion pump at least in part from a signal received from the urine sensor.

A method for providing decision-assist to medical staff resuscitating a burn patient includes receiving patient information, calculating an infusion rate, outputting the infusion rate, obtaining a urinary output, calculating a new infusion rate using infusion rate model based constants, and outputting the new infusion rate. In some embodiments, the method includes notifying medical staff when problems arise, displaying information regarding the resuscitation, and setting limits regarding the infusion rates.
