The invention relates to a composition useful as a protein source for a milk replacer in animal feed. Specifically, the milk replacer is used for pre-ruminant and young ruminant calves, suckling piglets and suckling lambs. The composition consists of a combination of hydrolyzed soya proteins and hydrolyzed wheat gluten. Furthermore, a method is disclosed for obtaining the composition. A process for enhancing animal growth by feeding animals with a milk replacer containing the said composition is also disclosed.

Calf milk replacer

The present process concerns the production of glutamic acid or glutamate. The process of the present invention includes the following steps. Glutamine or glutamic acid rich proteins are hydrolysed. Optionally, the glutamic acid is converted to glutamate and the glutamate is isolated. The protein hydrolysate or the glutamate depleted protein hydrolysate is added to the feedstock of a glutamic acid fermentation in such an amount that the protein hydrolysate forms the major carbon and nitrogen source. After fermentation the glutamic acid is converted to glutamate and the glutamate is isolated.

Process for the production of glutamic acid and the use of protein

The invention comprises spray dried erythritol which may also be agglomerated. The product is a free-flowing powder which preferably has 60% or more of its particles in the range 10 to 250 microns. The product is useful as a sweetener for which it is particularly adapted to be combined with a synthetic sweetener such as aspartame. The product is also useful in combination with a binder, particularly a potato maltodextrin, as a tabletting composition. The invention also comprises a process for making the product.

Erythritol compositions

The present invention discloses a method for obtaining oil mixtures comprising wheat germ oil characterized in that the oil is obtained by co-pressing of wheat germs with oil containing seeds or germs from at least one other species. The present invention further discloses oil mixtures containing wheat germ oil.
