A multimodal linear low density polyethylene polymer having a final density of 900 to 940 kg/m, and containing at least one &#x3b1;-olefin comonomer in addition to ethylene comprising: (A) 30 to 60 wt % of a lower molecular weight component being an ethylene homopolymer or a copolymer of ethylene and at least one &#x3b1;-olefin; and (B) 70 to 40 wt % of a higher molecular weight component being a copolymer of ethylene and at least one &#x3b1;-olefin, said &#x3b1;-olefin being the same or different from any &#x3b1;-olefin used in component (A) but with the proviso that both components (A) and (B) are not polymers of ethylene and butane alone; wherein the multimodal LLDPE has a dart drop of at least 700 g; and wherein components (A) and (B) are obtainable using a Ziegler-Natta catalyst.

Multi-stage process for producing multimodal linear low density polyethylene polymers

The invention relates to a polymer blend suitable for the production of film, said polymer blend comprising at least (1) a multimodal high density polyethylene (HDPE) composition and (2) a low density polyethylene (LDPE) polymer, a linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) polymer or a mixture of LDPE and LLDPE polymers, said HDPE composition comprising a multimodal HDPE polymer which contains at least a lower molecular weight (LMW) polyethylene component and a higher molecular weight (HMW) polyethylene component.

Polymer blend

A process for producing bimodal linear low-density polyethylene polymer compositions, useful for making films. The polymer compositions have a melt flow rate MFRof 0.4 to 1.0 g/10 min and a density of 918 to 925 kn/m. The process to produce the polymer compositions involves copolymerizing ethylene with an alpha-olefin comonomer in a loop reactor to produce a low molecular weight polymer having a melt flow rate MFRof 50 to 500 g/10 min and a density of 945 to 953 kg/m. The polymerization is continued in a gas phase reactor to produce a high molecular weight polymer, such that the final polymer composition has the desired properties. The final composition contains from 41 to 48% by weight of the low molecular weight polymer and from 59 to 52% by weight of the high molecular weight polymer. The resulting films have an excellent visual appearance and good mechanical properties. The compositions can easily be converted to films. The process can be operated a long time without a shutdown.
