A converter module comprises a housing; a fiber optic connector integrated with the housing, wherein the fiber optic connector is configured to mount directly to a fiber optic connector in a service terminal; a single electrical connector configured to couple to a metallic medium; and an optical-to-electrical (O/E) converter located in the housing and coupled to the fiber optic connector and the single electrical connector, the O/E converter configured to convert between optical frames communicated via the fiber optic connector and electrical signals communicated via the metallic medium.

Optical network converter module

A single line converter module comprises a housing; an environmentally hardened fiber optic connector located in the housing and configured to be optically coupled to a service terminal for receiving downstream optical frames; a single electrical connector located in the housing and coupled over a metallic medium to a network terminal providing a service to respective customer premise equipment (CPE); and an optical-to-electrical (O/E) converter located in the housing and configured to convert the downstream optical frames to an electrical signal for transmission over the metallic medium to the network terminal.

Single line passive optical network converter module

A hybrid service terminal for use in a passive fiber optic network comprises a plurality of optical fiber connectors, each coupled to a respective optical fiber for receiving downstream optical frames from an Optical Line Terminal (OLT); a plurality of hybrid fiber/copper connectors, each of the hybrid fiber/copper connectors coupled to a respective one of the plurality of optical fiber connectors; and a plurality of electrical connectors configured to receive electrical signals from a multi-line converter module over a respective one of a plurality of electrical conductors. One of the plurality of hybrid fiber/copper connectors is configured to provide the downstream optical frames to the multi-line converter module for conversion to the electrical signals. Each of the plurality of electrical connectors is coupled to a respective one of the plurality of hybrid fiber/copper connectors for providing the electrical signals over a respective metallic drop cable coupled to a respective network terminal at a corresponding customer premise.

A protective casing base component adapted to act as a base part of an optical fiber splice enclosure of the type including a generally tubular housing having an open end and a closed end and including means for sealing the enclosure including means for sealing the open end of the housing to the said casing component so that a plurality of optical fiber cables can pass into and out of the enclosure in use through an opening in the said component for the individual optical fibers in the cables to be spliced or connected to other such optical fibers within the enclosure, characterized in that the casing component is formed in such a way that it can be positioned or removed from a cable or plurality of cables at an intermediate point along the length thereof without interrupting the continuity of the cables, and having means for sealing the interior of the enclosure from external agencies.

In one aspect the invention provides an optical circuit enclosure enclosing at least one optical circuit or optical circuit component; the enclosure comprises: a tray type container containing at least one optical circuit or optical circuit component; a tray type closure member closing the container; the closure member containing at least one further optical circuit component on an external side thereof for optically connecting the enclosed component to an external optical circuit; and sealing means providing a moisture resistant seal between the container and the closure member.

Electrical connector

An electrical connector, particularly an insulation-displacement connector of split-beam design, comprising a metal that at constant temperature has an elasticity of at least 0.8%. This allows the connector to be used with conductors over a large diameter range.

Electrically-protected connector

Two optical fibres are spliced together, and the splice and a loop of fibre organized in an organizer, for example by securing the splice in a projection (11) and accommodating the loop in a tray (12). The organizer also comprises an engagement means for example cylindrical extensions (13) into engagement with which a heat recoverable sleeve (not shown) surrounding the organizer and splice can be recovered to enclose the splice.

A cable splice, branchout or termination has a heat recovered member (30) around one or more cable portions (33) extending out of an end of the member (30). The cable portion (33) is protected from physical damage and heat by placing around it individually a metal foil member (1), preferably aluminium of thickness 150-250 microns. The metal foil member is preferably coated with a hot melt adhesive (2) and a mastic (5) at distinct locations. A pressure sensitive adhesive (4) may also be provided to help secure the foil member (1) around the cable portion (33) before recovery of the outer member (30). Apertures (44) may be provided in the foil member (1) to allow passage therethrough of hot melt adhesive provided on the inner surface of the recoverable member (30).
