A method is provided for mounting a stent onto a catheter system. The method includes selecting a catheter having a first end where the first end includes an inflatable portion thereat. An adhesive bond is formed between the stent and the inflatable portion causing the stent to adhere to the inflatable portion. The formed adhesive bond is such that upon release of the stent from the inflatable portion upon inflation, the adhesive bond remains with the inflatable portion.

A catheter system for the introduction and implantation of a stent comprises a catheter () with an expandable portion () at its one end, elements at the opposite catheter end intended for communication with means for expanding the expandable portion, and a stent () made of a material to which a permanent deformation is imparted when the catheter is expanded until the desired insertion diameter is reached, said stent () being arranged around the expandable portion () of the catheter, where the stent () is adhesively connected to the expandable portion () of the catheter with adhesion forces between stent and support which are less powerful than the shear forces with which the expandable portion () of the catheter influences the adhesive connection when said portion is expanded, all of the above being obtainable by a method whereby the stent () is arranged around the expandable portion () of the catheter, the catheter surface is softened, e.g. by heating, whereupon the stent () is depressed into the catheter surface.

The present invention relates to a catheter systems for introducing and implanting an expandable stent member in a body. The catheter includes a catheter member having first and second ends, the first end having an inflatable portion, a lumen in fluid communication with the inflatable portion and the second end for inflating the inflatable portion. The expandable stent member is capable of permanent deformation when expanded. At least a portion of the stent member is attached to the inflatable portion by a bond and whereby upon inflation of the inflatable portion the bond is released from the stent member to permit deployment of the stent member and removal of the catheter member. The bond may be formed by the same or different material than the balloon surface. For example, an adhesive may be used. Additionally, the surface of the balloon may be softened and the stent member may be embedded into the softened portion and allowed to return to its original unsoftened state, thereby adhesively connecting the stent to the inflatable balloon.

A guidewire includes a shaft portion and a tip portion with the tip portion having a plastic tubular coating thereover. The shaft portion of the guidewire has a given diameter and the tip portion has a diameter which decreases towards a distal end thereof. A tubular plastic coating is placed on at least the tip portion of the guidewire. The outer diameter of the coating on the tip portion exceeds the diameter of the shaft portion. The diameter of the plastic coating is reduced so as to be no greater than the diameter of the shaft portion. A hydrophilic coating may be applied over the shaft and the tip portion of the guidewire.

In a plate-shaped insulation member consisting of parallel mineral wool strips positioned side by side with the fiber planes normal to the main surfaces of said members the strips are joined together by connecting means laid down in parallel tracks extending transverse to said strips and having a small depth relative to the thickness of the strips. The connecting means may consist of strings laid down in tracks either in one main surface only for production of flexible insulation mats or in both main surfaces for production of rigid formstable insulation plates.
