Disclosed herein are systems and methods for dynamically controlling active-to-dormant timers in radio access networks (RANs). One embodiment takes the form of a method that involves a system detecting a triggering event, and responsively identifying a current access-channel occupancy (ACHO). The method further involves the system increasing an active-to-dormant timer for at least one access terminal when the identified current ACHO exceeds a first threshold, and decreasing an active-to-dormant timer for at least one access terminal when the identified current ACHO is less than a second threshold.

Systems and methods for dynamically controlling active-to-dormant timers in radio access networks

A method of operating a computer system to project future communication loading for a wireless communication network that covers a geographic area having population data and a plurality of different land use descriptions is provided herein. The method comprises geographically separating the geographic area into a plurality of geographic bins, allocating historical communication loading to each one of the bins based on the population data and the land use descriptions, geographically allocating the bins to geographic sections of a new configuration for the wireless communication network, and totaling the historical communication loading from the bins in each one of the geographic sections to project the future communication loading for each one of the geographic sections in the new configuration of the wireless communication network.

An embodiment of the invention is directed toward identifying a number of high-ranking sectors requiring additional communication resources in a network composed of a number of sectors. A set of wireless-service subscribers that have churned are identified. Various sector profile data is captured for sectors serving the churners. The sectors are ranked based on the sector profile data that is collected. A number of high-ranking sectors are identified, based on the ranking.

Identifying and ranking high-impact churn sectors

Method for determining one or more sectors requiring additional communications resources in a network divided into a plurality of sectors. Usage data is determined within each sector. The sectors are divided into a number of groups based on the usage data for each sector. An ordering of sectors in each group is created, based on average usage data of the sectors. One or more sectors requiring additional communication resources are determined based on the ordering of sectors in each group, and the allocation of additional communications resources is facilitated consistent with the ordering.

A wireless communication system for monitoring a communication service comprises a first set of communication devices located in a first set of geographic areas configured to receive the communication service and determine first performance data. A communication network is configured to determine first network data for the communication service. A service monitoring system is configured to process the first performance data and the first network data to generate a communication service model. A second set of communication devices located in a second set of geographic areas is configured to receive the communication service and determine second performance data. The communication network is configured to determine second network data. The service monitoring system is configured to process the second network data with the communication service model to generate model performance data, and compare the model performance data to the second performance data to validate the communication service model.

What is disclosed is a method of operating a processing system to relocate wireless communication equipment. The method includes receiving customer data and performance data for wireless communication equipment located at a plurality of potential donor sites, and receiving geographic information for a target relocation site. The method also includes processing the customer data, the performance data, and the geographic information to determine a relocation score for each of the wireless communication equipment located at the plurality of potential donor sites, and selecting wireless communication equipment of at least one of the plurality of potential donor sites for relocation to the target relocation site based upon the relocation score.

An embodiment of the current invention is directed to determining one or more sectors in a network divided into sectors that require additional communication resources. Total-hourly, busy-time traffic is collected for each sector. A total-monthly, busy-time traffic is determined for each month, based on the total-hourly, busy-time traffic. The sectors are divided into a number of groups, based on the total-monthly, busy-time traffic for each sector. An ordering of sectors in each group is created, based on the total-hourly, busy-time traffic, utilizing a different ordering algorithm for each group. One or more sectors requiring additional communication resources are determined based on the ordering of sectors.
