Methods and uses of biological tissues for various stent and other medical applications. In an exemplary embodiment of a method of processing a tissue of the present disclosure, the method comprises the steps of acquiring a mammalian tissue comprising at least a portion of a pulmonary region tissue, selecting a sample of pulmonary region tissue from the at least a portion of a pulmonary region tissue, and fixing the sample of pulmonary region tissue using a fixative, resulting in a fixed sample. In at least one embodiment, the step of selecting a sample of pulmonary region tissue comprises selecting a sample of pulmonary ligament tissue from the mammalian tissue.

Methods and uses of biological tissues for various stent and other medical applications

The disclosure of the present application provides devices, systems, and methods for the prevention of stroke. In at least one embodiment of a device of the present application, the device comprises an extension portion sized and shaped to fit within an artery extending from an aortic arch, and a flange portion sized and shaped to prevent the device from advancing into the artery extending from the aortic arch in which the device may be positioned. In at least one embodiment of a system for preventing stroke of the present application, the system comprises a hypotube, a folder coupled to a distal end of the hypotube, a sleeve positioned circumferentially around the hypotube proximal to the folder, and a stent, wherein a first part of the stent may be positioned within the folder, and wherein a second part of the stent may be positioned within the sleeve.

Devices, systems, and methods for the prevention of stroke

A stentless bioprosthetic valve includes at least one piece of biocompatible material comprising a bi-leaflet conduit having a proximal end and a distal end. The proximal end defines a first annulus for suturing to the valve annulus. The conduit includes first and second leaflets that mimic the native leaflets and extend between the conduit ends. The distal end defines a second annulus at which the first and second leaflets terminate. The conduit further includes first and second pairs of prosthetic chordae projecting from the leaflets at the second annulus. One of the first pair of prosthetic chordae extends from the first leaflet and has a distal end for suturing to a papillary muscle and the other of the first pair of prosthetic chordae extends from the first leaflet and has a distal end for suturing to another papillary muscles.

An apparatus and method for automatically retroperfusing a coronary vein. The apparatus includes an intraluminal graft having a tubular body extending between a proximal end and a distal end. The proximal end is for fluidly connecting to an artery to automatically supply retrograde blood for retroperfusion. The tubular body and the distal end are extendable into a vein that is fluidly connected with the coronary vein to be retroperfused. The distal end includes an expandable stent for securing the distal end in the coronary vein.

Apparatus for auto-retroperfusion of a coronary vein

A stentless bioprosthetic valve includes at least one piece of biocompatible material comprising a bi-leaflet conduit. The conduit has a distal end and a proximal end that defines a first annulus for suturing to the valve annulus of a heart. The conduit further includes first and second leaflets that mimic the anterior and posterior leaflets of the native mitral valve. The first and second leaflets extend between the proximal and distal ends. The distal end defines a second annulus at which the first and second leaflets terminate. The second annulus is for suturing to free edges of the anterior and posterior leaflets of the native mitral valve that remain intact following resection of the native mitral valve so that the native chordae tendineae continue to provide prolapse prevention and left ventricular muscle support functions in addition to maintaining the continuity between the valve annulus and the papillary muscles. A method for replacing the native mitral valve with a stentless bioprosthetic valve is also provided.

An apparatus for automatically retroperfusing a coronary vein includes an intraluminal cannula having a main body portion extending between a proximal end portion and a distal end portion. The proximal end portion is for connecting to an artery outside of the pericardium to automatically supply oxygenated blood from the artery for retroperfusion. The main body portion and the distal end portion are insertable through a vein that is fluidly connected with the coronary vein and into the coronary vein. An expandable stent is attached to the distal end portion for expanding radially into engagement with the interior wall of the coronary vein to secure the distal end portion at a desired location within the coronary vein. Occluding structure for at least partially occluding the coronary vein is provided at the distal end to decrease the back-flow of blood into the right atrium during retroperfusion.

Apparatus and method for auto-retroperfusion of a coronary vein

An apparatus for automatically retroperfusing a coronary vein includes an intraluminal cannula having a main body portion extending between a proximal end portion and a distal end portion. The proximal end portion is for connecting to an artery outside of the pericardium to automatically supply oxygenated blood from the artery for retroperfusion. The main body portion and the distal end portion are insertable through a vein that is fluidly connected with the coronary vein and into the coronary vein. An expandable stent is attached to the distal end portion for expanding radially into engagement with the interior wall of the coronary vein to secure the distal end portion at a desired location within the coronary vein. Occluding structure for at least partially occluding the coronary vein is provided at the distal end to decrease the back-flow of blood into the right atrium during retroperfusion. The cannula includes passages that allow a limited amount of blood to bypass the occluding structure.

An intraluminal catheter having an expandable tubular open-walled element for immobilizing at least part of the catheter within a patient's body lumen, generally comprising an elongated shaft and a tubular open-walled element secured to the shaft, wherein the tubular open-walled element is at least in part expandable from an unexpanded diameter to a larger diameter expanded diameter within the body lumen. The expanded diameter configuration is configured to contact a wall defining the body lumen and thereby releasably secure at least part of the catheter within the body lumen. A cannula member, used for delivering or removing fluids from the body lumen, can be positioned in one or more optimal perfusion locations within the body lumen during use, independent of the secured site. When occlusion of the axial flow is necessary, an optional occluding member may be reversibly deployed so that it expands inside and against the expanded tubular open-walled element. The optimal occlusion site can also be chosen independently of the secured site.
