The present invention describes a system that uses ultrasonic waves to transfer energy and data, enabling for the control and recharging of a cardiac assist device. Data and energy transfer are accomplished using pulsed ultrasonic waves. The use of ultrasonic waves allows for wireless transcutaneous energy transfer to power the cardiac assist device pump in absence of a driveline, reducing complications associated with driveline infections and improving patient quality of life.

System and methods for using ultrasonic waves for wireless powering and communication of a cardiac assist device

Described herein are systems and methods for performing optical signal analysis and lesion predictions in ablations. A system includes a catheter coupled to a plurality of optical fibers via a connector that interfaces with a computing device. The computing device includes a memory and a processor configured to receive optical measurement data of a portion of tissue from the catheter. The processor identifies one or more optical properties of the portion of tissue by analyzing the optical measurement data and determines a time of denaturation of the portion of tissue based on the one or more optical properties. A model is created to represent a correlation between lesion depths and ablation times using the time of denaturation, the one or more optical properties, and the predetermined period of time. A predicted lesion depth for a predetermined ablation time is generated using the model.

Systems and methods for optical analysis and lesion prediction using ablation catheters

Described herein are methods, devices, and support structures for assembling optical fibers in catheter tips and facilitating alignment and structural support. A method for assembling a plurality of optical fibers and lenses in a support structure for an ablation catheter includes providing a support structure with a proximal end, a body, and a distal end, the distal end including a plurality of alignment orifices or slits. A plurality of optical fibers are threaded through the alignment orifices or slits, such that each optical fiber is threaded through a corresponding alignment orifice or slit. An adhesive material is applied at each alignment orifice or slit to secure the optical fibers, and the plurality of optical fibers are then cleaved at the distal end to remove portions of the fibers extending out of the distal end. Finally, a lens is attached to each of the ends of the plurality of optical fibers.

Methods, devices, and support structures for assembling optical fibers in catheter tips

A prosthetic valve includes a tubular frame, a multi-leaflet valve, movable rods, and a flange. The frame includes a lattice, an inflow end portion, and an outflow end portion. The frame is movable between radially collapsed and expanded states. The lattice deflects as the frame moves between the radially collapsed and expanded states. The valve is disposed within and coupled to the frame and is configured to allow one-way blood flow therethrough. The rods are coupled to the lattice of the frame and are configured to facilitate movement of the frame between the radially collapsed and expanded states. The flange is coupled to and extends radially outwardly from the frame and includes deflectable petals. The petals include a first petal having a first length and a second petal having a second length, and the first length is different than the second length.

Systems and methods for anchoring and sealing a prosthetic heart valve

Described herein is a system including a catheter, an optical circuit, a pulsed field ablation energy source, and a processing device. The catheter includes a proximal section, a distal section, and a shaft coupled between the proximal section and the distal section. The optical circuit is configured to transport light at least partially from the proximal section to the distal section and back. The pulsed field ablation energy source is coupled to the catheter and configured to transmit pulsed electrical signals to a tissue sample. The processing device is configured to analyze one or more optical signals received from the optical circuit to determine changes in polarization or phase retardation of light reflected or scattered by the tissue sample, and determine changes in a birefringence of the tissue sample based on the changes in polarization or phase retardation.

Optical-guided ablation system for use with pulsed fields or other energy sources

Described herein are methods, devices, and support structures for assembling optical fibers in catheter tips and facilitating alignment and structural support. A method of implanting a replacement mitral valve can include expanding a replacement mitral valve to a first expanded configuration. The replacement mitral valve can include a force-expanding mitral valve lattice and a self-expanding valve trampoline lattice. The mitral valve lattice has an inflow end portion and an outflow end portion, and the valve trampoline lattice is attached to the outflow end portion of the mitral valve lattice. The method can also include rotating a plurality of jack screws connected to the mitral valve lattice. The jack screws can be configured to expand the mitral valve lattice from the first expanded configuration to a second expanded configuration.

A method of implanting a prosthetic heart valve includes advancing a prosthetic heart valve to an implantation location within a patient's body, positioning the prosthetic heart valve within a native heart valve annulus, expanding a frame of the prosthetic heart valve from a first contracted configuration to a first expanded configuration, and then contracting the frame to a second contracted configuration. The prosthetic heart valve may be repositioned and then re-expanded from the second contracted configuration to a second expanded configuration. The prosthetic heart valve is preferably released from the delivery apparatus while in the second expanded configuration. Releasing the prosthetic heart valve from the delivery apparatus may result in radial expansion of a flange portion of the prosthetic heart valve.

Embodiments of the present invention provide devices, systems, and methods for implanting and using a connector in a tissue wall to establish, maintain, control, and close a fluid communication between opposing surfaces of the tissue wall. The connector may include an anchoring device, a port, and a coupler device. The anchoring device may be configured for advancing at least partially through the tissue wall. The port may be positioned about a proximal end of the anchoring device, and the port may define an aperture therethrough. The present disclosure provides an apical connector for use in a heart wall. The apical connector may include a port defining an aperture therethrough, an anchoring device extending distally from the port and configured for advancing at least partially through the heart wall, and a cannula configured for advancing through the aperture of the port and at least partially through the heart wall. The cannula may include a locking tab configured to engage the port and lock the cannula with respect to the port.
