Techniques are provided for reducing the form factor of smart labels. An example smart label includes a flexible circuit board comprising two or more layers, a communications circuit including at least one transceiver disposed on one of the two or more layers, an antenna tuning circuit disposed on one of the two or more layers and configured to receive radio frequency signals from the communications circuit, at least one flexible battery disposed on a first layer of the two or more layers and configured to provide power to the communications circuit, and an antenna element disposed on a second layer of the two or more layers and proximate to the at least one flexible battery, wherein the antenna element is configured to receive the radio frequency signals from the antenna tuning circuit.

An antenna system includes: a patch antenna element disposed at a first level of the antenna system; an energy coupler configured and coupled to the patch antenna element to transfer energy between the patch antenna element and a front-end circuit; a ground conductor disposed at a second level of the antenna system, the patch antenna element and the ground conductor being disposed a separation distance away from each other and bounding respective sides of a volume defined by a projection, normal to a surface of the patch antenna element, of the patch antenna element to the ground conductor; and a floating conductor that is displaced from the ground conductor and the patch antenna element, the floating conductor comprising a body extending over a portion of the separation distance outside of, and in close proximity to, the volume.

Aspects described herein include methods and devices for radar integration with a mmW communication module. In some aspects, an apparatus is provided that includes a millimeter wave (mmW) printed circuit board (PCB), with first and second mmW elements, and a radar antenna. The first mmW element is coupled to a first side of the mmW PCB, where the first mmW element is configured for wireless mmW communications at frequencies above approximately 24 gigahertz (GHz). A second mmW element coupled to the first side of the mmW PCB, where the second mmW element is positioned adjacent to the first mmW element and is separated from the first mmW element by a gap spacing. A radar antenna is disposed in the mmW PCB and aligned with the gap spacing between the first mmW element and the second mmW element.

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. According to one or more aspects, the described apparatus includes one or more stacks of patch radiators (such as patch antennas) comprising at least a first patch radiator and a second patch radiator. The first patch radiator is associated with a low-band frequency; the second patch radiator is associated with a high-band frequency. The first patch radiator and the second patch radiator may overlap a ground plane, which may be asymmetric. Some or all patch radiators in a stack may be rotated relative to the ground plane, such that some or all edge of a patch radiator may be nonparallel with one or more edges of the ground plane. Further, each patch radiator stack may include separate feeds for each of at least two frequencies and two polarizations, and thus at least four feeds (one for each frequency/polarization combination) in total.

An antenna is described. The antenna includes a first plurality of first elements. Each of the first elements is dual polarized and configured to support a first set of bands and a second set of bands that is mutually exclusive from the first set of bands. The antenna also includes a second plurality of second elements. Each of the second elements is dual polarized and configured to support the second set of bands. The second plurality of second elements is interleaved with the first plurality of first elements.

An antenna system includes: a first antenna element configured to transduce between second wireless energy and second transmission-line-conducted energy, wherein the first and second wireless energy are of first and second polarizations of the first antenna element and in first and second directions that are different and define a first plane; and a second antenna element configured to transduce between third wireless energy and third transmission-line-conducted energy and between fourth wireless energy and fourth transmission-line-conducted energy, wherein the third and fourth wireless energy are of first and second polarizations of the second antenna element and in third and fourth directions that are different and define a second plane that is substantially orthogonal to the first plane.

An antenna system includes: a patch radiator being electrically conductive and configured to radiate energy in a first frequency band and a second frequency band, different from the first frequency band; a parasitic patch radiator overlapping with the patch radiator, the parasitic patch radiator being electrically conductive and being configured to radiate energy in the first frequency band; and at least one parasitic element including a conductor sized and disposed relative to the parasitic patch radiator such that a combination of the parasitic patch radiator and the at least one parasitic element will radiate energy in the second frequency band.

Multi-layer patch antenna

Apparatus, methods, and computer-readable media for implementing a display-side antenna are disclosed herein. An example apparatus for wireless communication includes a housing and a display device supported by the housing. The example display device includes at least a glass cover and a panel positioned between the glass cover and an internal surface of the housing. The panel may be configured to output graphical content for presentment on the glass cover via pixels arranged within a visible area of the panel. The example apparatus also includes an antenna array. The antenna array may be configured to facilitate wireless communication at the apparatus. The antenna array may be positioned to overlap a portion of the visible area of the panel and configured to allow graphical content output by the panel to display on the glass cover at the overlapped portion of the visible area.

An electronic device includes a first antenna, a second antenna, and a device cover. The first antenna may be configured to transmit or receive signals at a first frequency, and the second antenna may be configured to transmit or receive signals at a second frequency. The device cover may be configured to enclose at least a portion of the device, the and may have a first thickness in a first area and a second thickness in a second area. The first area may be substantially aligned with a boresight of the first antenna, and the second area may be substantially aligned with a boresight of the second antenna. The first thickness may be different than the second thickness.

Antenna and device configurations

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. An antenna structure for wideband coverage may include a first bowtie antenna disposed in a first plane. The first bowtie antenna may be, for example, an elliptical bowtie antenna or a triangular bowtie antenna. The antenna structure may also include a plurality of additional bowtie antennas, each of the plurality of additional bowtie antennas disposed in a different plane parallel to the first plane. The first bowtie antenna and the plurality of additional bowtie antennas may be stacked in a first direction perpendicular to the first plane to form a bowtie antenna stack. The antenna structure may include a plurality of bowtie antenna stacks. The antenna structure may also include a staggered conductive wall.

An antenna system for transducing radio-frequency energy includes: a first antenna sub-system comprising a plurality of radiators and a ground conductor, each of the plurality of radiators being sized and shaped to transduce millimeter-wave energy between first wireless signals and first electrical current signals; and a second antenna sub-system comprising a first radiator configured to transduce sub-6 GHz energy between second wireless signals and second electrical current signals, wherein the first radiator comprises the ground conductor.

The apparatus for wireless communication may include a transceiver, a memory, and at least one processor coupled to the memory and configured to execute instructions stored in the memory to control the transceiver. In another aspect, an apparatus may be an apparatus for wireless communication. The apparatus for wireless communication may include a patch antenna coupled to the transceiver. The patch antenna includes a patch, a ground plane substantially located with respect to the patch, a probe feed coupled to the patch, and a slot-coupled feed configured to couple to the patch.
