The present invention deals with activation and start-up procedures of catalysts for the deep HDS of middle distillates for producing ultra low sulfur diesel (ULSD), consisting of two in situ activation stages: at stage 1, TGA is applied, and at stage 2, DMDS is used; kerosene is the transport means at these stages, which are carried out under given temperature and pressure conditions, and feedstock and hydrogen flows at established times. After the activation of the catalyst in situ, the stabilization stage takes place under selected temperature and pressure conditions, feedstock and hydrogen flow at established times, with which the stabilization of the highly dispersed metallic sulfides is achieved and, in this way, the activity of the catalysts removing contaminants for the production of ULSD is increased.

Process for the activation and start-up of catalysts for deep hydrodesulfurization of middle distillates

The present invention relates to the process for preparing improved solid hydrogen transfer agents obtained from a polymer with units containing the structure of naphthalene, phenanthrene or anthracene, which exhibit activity as hydrogen transfer agents in any chemical reduction reaction involving the breaking of double bonds and in treatment, hydrotreatment and hydrodisintegration reactions of heavy and extra-heavy crude oils and of cuts and currents derived therefrom. These improved solid hydrogen transfer agents can be supported and not supported on metal oxides such as boehmite, alumina, silica, titania, kaolin and/or mixture thereof, in the presence of reducing agents such as hydrogen, methane, or natural gas. In addition, the application of these improved solid hydrogen transfer agents obtained from a polymer with units containing the structure of naphthalene, phenanthrene or anthracene, it allows to improve properties of the crudes such as viscosity, decrease in the formation of coke, increase in the yield of distillates and in API gravity. These hydrogen transfer agents, being solid, can be reused and recovered from the reaction medium; they also have a thermal stability such that it can carry out reactions at temperatures up to 450&#xb0; C.

Procedure for preparation of improved solid hydrogen transfer agents for processing heavy and extra-heavy crude oils and residues, and resulting product

A hydrocracking catalyst having a support of a composite of mesoporous materials, molecular sieves and alumina, is used in the last bed of a multi-bed system for treating heavy crude oils and residues and is designed to increase the production of intermediate distillates having boiling points in a temperature range of 204&#xb0; C. to 538&#xb0; C., decrease the production of the heavy fraction (&#x3e;538&#xb0; C.), and increase the production of gasoline fraction (&#x3c;204&#xb0; C.). The feedstock to be processed in the last bed contains low amounts of metals and is lighter than the feedstock that is fed to the first catalytic bed.

Mesoporous composite of molecular sieves for hydrocracking of heavy crude oils and residues

The present invention relates to a catalytic hydroconversion process in dispersed phase of extra-heavy and heavy crude oils for upgrading their transport properties, that operates at low severity conditions, in such a way that the obtained product can be transported by conventional pumping to the distribution and refining centers. Hydroconversion process to upgrade the transport properties of heavy and extra-heavy crude oils at low severity conditions using dispersed-phase catalyst

The present invention relates to a process for the partial upgrading of properties of heavy and/or extra-heavy crude oil by low severity catalytic hydrotreatment in only one reaction step. The process of the present invention is obtained upgraded oil with properties required for its transportation from offshore platforms either to maritime terminal or to refining centers. The process reduces the viscosity of heavy and/or extra-heavy crude oil, and decreases the concentration of impurities, such as sulfur, nitrogen, and metals, in such a way that heavy and/or extra-heavy crude oils can be transported to maritime terminals or to refining centers. The process increases the lifetime of the catalyst and decreased operating costs by reducing consumption of utilities because the operation of the process is carried out at lower severity. The partially upgraded oils obtained in this process can be transported directly to the maritime terminals or to existing refineries.

An improved catalyst for hydrodemetallization of heavy crude oils and residua is disclosed. The catalyst is adopted for fixed bed hydroprocessing units. The invention is characterized for having a large pore diameter catalyst principally for hydrodemetallization of heavy oil and residue in a first reactor of a multi-reactor process. The catalyst has high demetallizing activity and high metal deposition capacity which results in good stability with time on stream (TOS). The hydrorefining catalyst is obtained by kneading a porous starting powder principally composed of gamma-alumina and having a pore capacity of 0.3-0.6 ml/g or larger and a mean pore diameter of 10 to 26 nm, extrudating and calcining, and after that supported with active metals component of elements belonging to groups VIIIB and VIB of the periodic table.

Catalyst for the first hydrodemetalization step in a hydroprocessing system with multiple reactors for the improvement of heavy and extra heavy crudes

A process for reducing sulfur, nitrogen, metals and asphaltene contents, while increasing the yield of distillable fractions in heavy hydrocarbons, by using a cooled light fraction as a liquid quench stream. The light fraction is obtained by splitting heavy hydrocarbons into a heavy fraction, and a light fraction which may be injected at spaced locations along a system of fixed-bed reactors series that comprises a first hydrodemetallization (HDM)/hydrodeasphaltenization (HDAs) step, followed by a second hydrodesulfurization (HDS)/hydrodenitrogenation (HDN)/hydrocracking step. The metal and asphaltene rich heavy fraction have contact with the entire catalyst system, while the light fraction is injected as side feed and quench stream(s) into the second reactor, where it is treated in admixture with the heavy fraction for elimination of the impurities of the light fraction.

Hydroprocessing of heavy hydrocarbons using liquid quench streams

This invention reveals a method for synthesizing a hydrotreating catalyst wherein the support is prepared by mixing of peptized alumina with an amorphous silica or crystalline aluminum silicate as one component of the catalyst. The catalyst comprises a group VI metal and/or a group VIII metal of the periodic table. The catalyst exhibits improved hydrocracking, hydrodesulfurization and hydrodemetallization activities and has a relatively stable life with time on stream. Thus, the invention concerns a method for developing a catalyst for hydroprocessing of heavy hydrocarbon feedstocks which is characterized by two steps: the first step consists of the optimization of a catalyst formulation with respect to the textural properties, number of acid sites, active metal incorporation. The second step consists of the evaluation with real feedstock and catalyst stability with time-on-stream.

Mild acidic catalyst for hydroprocessing of heavy crude oil and residue and its synthesis procedure

A supported carbon having high surface area, high pore volume containing (i) molybdenum (ii) a metal of non noble Group VIII, (iii) phosphorous, is used for hydrometallization of heavy crude oil and residue. The catalyst contains about 6 to 15 wt % molybdenum as MoO, about 1 to 6 wt % cobalt or nickel as CoO or NiO and phosphorus as phosphorous oxide. One characteristic of the catalyst is the portion of pores having pore diameter in the range of 200 to 2000 Angstrom of 20 percent or more. The catalyst prepared by chelating agent has higher hydrodesulfurization activity assuming that more dispersed active metals are present on this catalyst. Long run activity studies show that catalyst having only molybdenum supported on activated carbon has good stability with time-on-stream and very high metal retention capacity.

Carbon supported catalyst for demetallation of heavy crude oil and residue

A catalyst for hydrotreating, especially hydrodesulfurization, of residua and heavy crudes is prepared by synthesizing the support from titanium and boehmite, to form either a titanium/alumina support (TiO/AlO) or a titanium-alumina support (TiO&#x2014;AlO) that is thereafter provided with at least one hydrogenating metal from group VIB in oxide form and a promoter from group VIII also in oxide form. The (TiO/AlO) support is prepared from boehmite, which is peptized by using an inorganic acid, then extruded, calcined and impregnated with a solution containing titanium, while the (TiO&#x2014;AlO) support is prepared by admixing boehmite with a titanium-containing solution, peptized using an inorganic acid, extruded and calcined to obtain the titanium-alumina support.

Catalyst, its preparation and use for hydrodesulfurization of residua and heavy crudes

Two-stage low pressure catalytic hydrotreatment of heavy petroleum hydrocarbons having a high content of contaminants (metals and asphaltenes), is conducted under operating conditions with low-pressure, in a fixed bed or ebullated bed reactor to limit the formation of sediments and sludge in the product and obtain a hydrotreated hydrocarbon of improved properties, with levels of contaminants, API gravity and distillates within the ranges commonly reported in the feedstocks typical to refining schemes. A hydrotreatment catalyst, whose principal effect is the hydrodemetallization and the hydrocracking of asphaltenes of the heavy hydrocarbons of petroleum is used in the first stage, and the second reaction stage employs a hydrotreatment catalyst for a deeper effect of hydrodesulfurization of the heavy petroleum hydrocarbon whose content of total sulfur is reduced to a level required for its treatment in the conventional refining process or for its sale as a hydrocarbon of petroleum with improved properties.
