A clamping apparatus for a head-mounted display device is provided. The clamping apparatus comprises a pivot portion at a rear of the clamping apparatus, the pivot portion adapted to rotate in a rotation plane, a first side portion coupled to and extending in a forward direction from the pivot portion, a second side portion coupled to and extending in the forward direction from the pivot portion, wherein the pivot portion is adapted to adjust the first and second side portions through the rotation plane to a first position and maintain the first position until later adjusted, and a display device assembly coupled to the first side portion, the display device assembly extending in the forward direction from the first side portion.

A headset is described. The headset includes a frame configured to be worn substantially behind the ears of a user. The frame includes a top surface having a first plurality of attachment features and a bottom surface having a second plurality of attachment features. A boom is mechanically coupled to the frame. The boom supports an electronic device. A band is configured to be worn substantially across the crown of the head of the user. The band can be detachably coupled to the first plurality of attachment features such that the boom is oriented on a first side of the frame in a first mode of operation. The band can be detachably coupled to the second plurality of attachment features such that the boom is oriented on a second side of the frame in a second mode of operation.

A head-mounted computing device is described. The head-mounted computing device includes a processor. Coupled to the processor is a memory for storing a software application for execution on the processor. A battery provides current to the processor. A frame supports the processor, the memory, and the battery. The frame includes a mechanical coupling feature and an electrical connector for receiving a peripheral.

A headset is described. The headset includes a headset insert worn on a head of a user. The headset insert includes a first connector having a first mechanical coupler. The first connector is configured to mate in at least two different orientations with a second connector having a second mechanical coupler. A frame includes the second connector that mates with the first connector. The frame is adapted to receive the headset insert in at least two different orientations.

Systems and methods that reduce a number of holes that penetrate into a housing of mobile computing device by employing a modular housing with a housing plate(s) attachable thereto. Such housing plates can form a segment of a stylus trough and also facilitate attachment of hand strap and socket cover arrangement to the housing of the mobile computing unit. By reducing number of openings into the housing, a risk of liquid or particulate contaminants entering into the device and degrading performance of the mobile computing unit can be reduced and reliability increased.

A power pack with human interface devices that includes a power pack housing, which is detachably interfaced to a portable device. The power pack includes a power source internal to the housing for providing power, a light source internal to the housing for producing a light signal associated with a status, which light signal is viewable external to the housing, and an audio source internal to the housing for producing an audio signal associated with the status. The power pack interfaces electrically to the portable device to provide power thereto, and receive therefrom control signals associated with the status, which control signals activate at least one of the light source and audio source according to the status.
