A method is provided for recording or representing captured ultrasound-derived information. The method is based on obtaining positioning information related to an ultrasound probe during execution of an ultrasound examination, and using this to associate captured data samples, or information derived therefrom, with anatomical position information for the data samples. The link between the two is achieved using an anatomical model which can relate probe surface position with anatomical body structure underlying the surface. A map can be generated of the obtained data as a function of position across the surface of the anatomical body. i.e. effectively a projection of the data onto the object 2D surface.

Method for use in ultrasound imaging

The invention refers to an apparatus () for generating an augmented image comprising a) a base image providing unit (), wherein the base image is generated based on a combination of spectral image data, b) a contrast image providing unit (), wherein the contrast image is generated based on a different combination of the spectral image data, c) a degree of saliency determination unit (), wherein the degree of saliency is indicative of a difference between an image value of a voxel of the contrast image and an image value of a corresponding voxel of a predetermined template image, and d) an augmented image generation unit () for generating an augmented base image of the object by augmenting voxels of the base image based on the degree of saliency. The invention allows to provide the augmented base image with an improved image quality and information content.

Apparatus for generating an augmented image of an object

A three-dimensional virtual endoscopy rendering of a lumen of a tubular structure is based on both non-spectral and spectral volumetric imaging data. The three-dimensional virtual endoscopy rendering includes a 2-D image of a lumen of the tubular structure from a viewpoint of a virtual camera of a virtual endoscope passing through the lumen. In one instance, the three-dimensional virtual endoscopy rendering is similar to the view which is provided by a physical endoscopic video camera inserted into the actual tubular structure and positioned at that location. The non-spectral volumetric image data is used to determine an opacity and shading of the three-dimensional virtual endoscopy rendering. The spectral volumetric image data is used to visually encode the three-dimensional virtual endoscopy rendering to visually distinguish an inner wall of the tubular structure and structure of interest on the wall.

3-D virtual endoscopy rendering

The present invention relates to a calculation device () for comparing dark-field X-ray images. The calculation device in () is configured for receiving a first dark-field X-ray image () describing first dark-field X-ray signals of a patient at an expiration state and for receiving a second dark-field X-ray image () describing second dark-field X-ray signals of the patient at an inspiration state. The calculation device is further () configured for normalizing the first dark-field X-ray signals of the first dark-field X-ray tin image () with a lung thickness value describing the lung thickness at the expiration state and for normalizing the second dark-field X-ray signals of the second dark-field X-ray image () with a lung thickness value describing the lung thickness at the inspiration state. Further, the calculation device () is configured for comparing the normalized first dark-field X-ray signals with the normalized second dark-field X-ray signals, thereby determining a comparison result () and for determining whether at least one area of the patient's lung with a ventilation defect exists based on the comparison result ().

Calculation device for determining ventilation defects

Augmented reality (AR) servicing guidance uses a mobile device () with a display and a camera. Computer vision (CV) processing () such as Simultaneous Location and Mapping (SLAM) is performed to align AR content () with a live video feed () captured by the camera. The aligned AR content is displayed on the display of the mobile device. In one example, the mobile device is a head-up display (HUD) () with a transparent display () and camera (). In another example the mobile device is a cellphone or tablet computer () with a front display () and a rear-facing camera (). The AR content () is generated by CV processing () to align () AR content with recorded video () of a service call. The aligning () includes aligning locations of interest (LOIs) identified in the recorded video of the service call by a user input.

Self-expanding augmented reality-based service instructions library

An ultrasound system is disclosed comprising an ultrasound transducer array () comprising a plurality of ultrasound transducer cells (), each of said cell having an independently adjustable position and/or orientation such as to conform an ultrasound transmitting surface of the cell to a region of a body and a controller (). The controller is configured to register the respective ultrasound transducer cells by simultaneously operating at least two ultrasound transducer cells in a transmit mode in which the cells transmit distinguishable ultrasound signals and operating the remaining ultrasound transducer cells in a receive mode. The controller extracts time-of-flight information of the respective ultrasound signals between transmitter and receiver and by systematically selecting different ultrasound transducer cells as transmitters, the controller collects sufficient time-of-flight information from which the respective position and/or relative orientation of the ultrasound transducer cells within the ultrasound transducer array may be derived. A method for operating the ultrasound system in this manner as well as a computer program product is also disclosed.

A System for image processing (IPS), in particular for lung imaging. The system (IPS) comprises an interface (IN) for receiving at least a part of a 3D image volume (VL) acquired by PAT an imaging apparatus (IA) of a lung (LG) of a subject (PAT) by exposing the subject (PAT) to a first interrogating signal. A layer definer (LD) of the system (IPS) is configured to define, in the 3D image volume, a layer object (LO) that includes a representation of a surface (S) of the lung (LG). A renderer (REN) of the system (IPS) is configured to render at least a part of the layer object (LO) in 3D at a rendering view (V) for visualization on a display device (DD).

Image processing system and method

Iterative material decomposition of multispectral image data includes providing a plurality of spectral images of a region of interest comprising a body part and a plurality of sets of material coefficients for a plurality of materials. Each spectral image is decomposed into a plurality of material images and an offset image. At least one of the material images for each spectral image is manipulated on the basis of at least one topological constraint relating to the body part to determine for each spectral image an updated plurality of material images and an updated offset image. A plurality of spectral images is then recomposed from the corresponding updated plurality of material images and the updated offset. Intensities at image locations are compared, and the updated plurality of material images is modified. The steps are repeated until convergence, and at least one of the recomposed spectral images at convergence is output.

Apparatus for iterative material decomposition of multispectral data

The present invention relates to an apparatus () for presentation of dark field information. It is described to provide () an X-ray attenuation image of a region of interest of an object. A dark field X-ray image of the region of interest of the object is also provided (). A plurality of sub-regions of the region of interest are defined () based on the X-ray attenuation image of the region of interest or based on the dark field X-ray image of the region of interest. At least one quantitative value is derived () for each of the plurality of sub-regions, wherein the at least one quantitative value for a sub-region comprises data derived from the X-ray attenuation image of the sub-region and data derived from the dark field X-ray image of the sub-region. A plurality of figures of merit are assigned () to the plurality of sub-regions, wherein a figure of merit for a sub-region is based on the at least one quantitative value for the sub-region. Data representative of the region of interest is output () with figures of merit for the respective sub-regions.

Apparatus for presentation of dark field X-ray image information

The present invention relates to a method of calculating a surgical intervention plan. Based on surface data of the patient, a surface representation of a part of the patient's body is created. From a database, a plurality of surgical methods may be selected and the geometrical parameters of a surgical plan can be adapted based on each individual surgical method. Therefore, the surgeon may easily select, which of the surgical method is appropriate for the planned surgical intervention. Furthermore, the surgical intervention plan which has been adapted according to the finally selected surgical method may then be projected onto the skin of the patient such that a drawing of the incision lines is facilitated. Furthermore, the use of a remotely activatable pen based on the current position of the pen and based on the finally selected surgical plan is presented.

System and method for accurately determining and marking skin incision lines for surgical intervention

The present invention relates to positioning guidance for image acquisition. In order to facilitate positioning of a patient for medical image acquisition, a guiding system () is provided. The system comprises a patient detecting device () and a patient position prescribing device (). The patient detecting device is configured to detect an anatomy of interest () of a patient for image acquisition and to detect current spatial information of the anatomy of interest. The patient position prescribing device is configured to provide an initial target position () for the detected anatomy of interest, wherein the initial target position is provided as a reference for the image acquisition. The patient position prescribing device is further configured to register the initial target position with the current spatial information, and to determine an adapted target position () by adapting the initial target position based inter alia on the current spatial information.

Guiding system for positioning a patient for medical imaging

The present invention relates to positioning of an X-ray source. In order to provide an improved user interface for facilitating the X-ray imaging positioning, a transportable handheld planning device () for visualizing projected X-ray radiation for medical X-ray imaging is provided, that comprises a first structure () for representing a central axis () of a projected X-ray radiation (), and a second structure () for representing a cross-sectional area () of the projected X-ray radiation. The first structure is manually positionable by a user in relation to an object to be examined. The second structure is adjustable by a user such that the size and proportions of the cross-sectional area are adjustable in relation to the object to be examined. User interface for X-ray positioning

There is presented a methodand apparatusto measure the surface of the patient (thorax and abdominal regions), e.g., during therapy delivery and (if necessary) while imaging. Together with biomechanical considerations the position of internal structures of the patient, such as an organ, and optionally a tumor in an organ, is inferred from the measured patient surface. In case the patient breaths and thus the organ and/or tumor moves, the position may be determined, which may be advantageous during, e.g., radiation therapy, since it enables that whenever the tumor is at the right position according to the radiation therapy plan, the radiation is switched on. In a specific embodiment, a finite element model is employed.

Estimating position of an organ with a biomechanical model

The invention relates to a system and an imaging method for visualizing areas () in a moving environment within the body of a patient (), wherein the position of one or more markers, which are connected to an interventional device (), is determined and used to determine the position of the areas () and/or of the interventional device () in images () which are recorded of the areas () and of their environment. According to the invention, the markers used are active locators which independently of the method used to record the images () generate data or signals for determining their position. Such an imaging method, which preferably uses electromagnetic locators, allows a considerably more robust representation of the visualized areas (), with elimination of movements, than is possible using passive markers.

Imaging system for interventional radiology

The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for the intravascular or intracardial navigation of a catheter (). Using an X-ray fluoroscopy device (), firstly an image database of 2D images is generated, where at the same time as each 2D image (I) is taken the associated heartbeat phase is recorded using an ECG (). During the catheter intervention, the position of the catheter () is measured by means of a position measurement unit (), and at the same time the ECG and preferably also a signal that is dependent on the breathing movement are recorded. The current spatial position of the catheter () that is measured is then assigned the 2D image of the image database which corresponds in terms of the heartbeat phase and also possibly in terms of the breathing phase, on which image the position of the catheter can be represented.
