Systems and methods presented herein facilitate operation of well-related tools. In certain embodiments, a variety of data (e.g., downhole data and/or surface data) may be collected to enable optimization of operations related to the well-related tools. In certain embodiments, the collected data may be provided as advisory data (e.g., presented to human operators of the well to inform control actions performed by the human operators) and/or used to facilitate automation of downhole processes and/or surface processes (e.g., which may be automatically performed by a computer implemented surface processing system (e.g., a well control system), without intervention from human operators). In certain embodiments, the systems and methods described herein may enhance downhole operations (e.g., milling operations) by improving the efficiency and utilization of data to enable performance optimization and improved resource controls of the downhole operations.

A system for use in carrying out downhole coiled tubing applications with two-way telemetry over a single fiber optic thread. The system includes uphole and downhole assemblies each having unique couplers. Specifically, the couplers may be configured to secure the single fiber optic thread at one end thereof while having dedicated fiber optic channels at another side thereof for interfacing a fiber optic transmitter and receiver. Thus, fiber optic data may travel from a surface assembly over the thread for detection at the downhole assembly simultaneous with fiber optic data travelling from the downhole assembly to the surface assembly over the same thread.

A downhole tool conveyable within a wellbore and able to optically communicate with surface equipment. The downhole tool includes a processing system operable to process electronic downlink signals and generate electronic uplink signals. The downhole tool further includes an integrated module having an optical interface able to receive multiplexed optical downlink signals from the surface equipment and to transmit multiplexed optical uplink signals to the surface equipment, a multiplexer/demultiplexer able to demultiplex the multiplexed optical downlink signals into carrier optical downlink signals, and to multiplex carrier optical uplink signals into the multiplexed optical uplink signals, a receiver able to convert the carrier optical downlink signals into the electronic downlink signals, and a transmitter able to convert the electronic uplink signals into the carrier optical uplink signals.

Integrated optical module for downhole tools

Systems and methods regarding a reel, downhole tool, control system, and rotary joint. The reel is disposed at a wellsite surface and containing coiled tubing. A first optical conductor is carried with the coiled tubing. The downhole tool is connected to the coiled tubing for conveyance within the wellbore via the coiled tubing. The control system is disposed at the wellsite surface. The rotary joint is disposed in association with the reel and transmits optical communications between the control system and at least one of the downhole tool and the coiled tubing disposed within the wellbore, via at least the first optical conductor and a second optical conductor extending at least partially between the rotary joint and the control system.
