A steering system for controlling a direction of travel of a work machine includes a steering device controllable by an operator of the work machine. The steering device is coupled to an axle of the work machine for controlling an angular orientation of the wheels. A brake is coupled to the steering device and is controllably applied to apply a first amount of resistance to the steering device. A motor is coupled to the steering device and is controllably activated to apply a second amount of resistance to the steering device. A controller controls the steering system of the work machine in at least a first operating mode and a second operating mode. In the first operating mode, the controller controls the brake between an applied position and an unapplied position, whereas in the second operating mode, the controller controls the motor between an active position and a de-activated position.

Multi-selectable application mode steering system and method thereof

A system and technique for determining functionality of a hydraulic system including first and second motors mutually coupled in driving relation with a pump, a sensor generating a signal representative of a monitored condition, and a controller configured to selectively control activation and deactivation of the motors. Fitness detection logic stored in memory of the controller is executable by a processor to: determine, based on the signal while the first motor is activated and second motor is deactivated during a first test interval, whether the monitored condition meets a predefined threshold prior to expiration of the first test interval; determine, based on the signal while the second motor is activated and first motor is deactivated during a second test interval, whether the monitored condition meets the predefined threshold prior to expiration of the second test interval; and generate a readiness signal representative of the determined functionality of the hydraulic system.

System and method for determining operational readiness of a backup hydraulic pump system

A braking system of a work machine includes a pressurized fluid supply, a base valve fluidly coupled to the supply, a proportional control valve fluidly coupled to the supply, and a fluid output configured to be fluidly coupled to a braking system of a trailer. A first fluid path is selectively fluidly coupling the supply to the fluid output via the base valve, and a second fluid path is selectively fluidly coupling the supply to the fluid output via the proportional control valve. The base valve includes a predefined fixed gain and the proportional control valve includes an adjustable ratio.

Hydraulic trailer brake circuit for adjustable gain and improved stability

A method of detecting a leak in an air trailer brake circuit of a trailer includes providing a controller, a base valve, a first sensor, a second sensor, a leak control valve having a solenoid, a pneumatic fluid supply, a first brake output, and a second brake output. The method further includes supplying a first pressure to an inlet of the base valve and outputting a second pressure from an outlet of the base valve. The first pressure is detected with the first sensor and the second pressure is detected with the second sensor. The method also includes communicating the detected first pressure and the second pressure to the controller, and comparing a difference between first pressure and the second pressure to a threshold. A leak is detected in the air trailer brake circuit if the difference satisfies the threshold.

Pneumatic trailer brake circuit with breakaway detection and method thereof

A braking system of a trailer and work machine includes a pressurized fluid supply, a hydraulic base valve fluidly coupled to the supply, and a pneumatic base valve fluidly coupled to the supply. A proportional control valve is also fluidly coupled to the supply, and it includes an outlet disposed in fluid communication with the inlets of the hydraulic base valve and the pneumatic base valve. The system further includes a hydraulic output configured to be fluidly coupled to a hydraulic braking system of a trailer, and a pneumatic output configured to be fluidly coupled to a pneumatic braking system of a trailer. The hydraulic output is fluidly coupled to the outlet of the hydraulic base valve, and the pneumatic output is fluidly coupled to the outlet of the pneumatic base valve.
