Transducer steering and configuration systems and methods using a local positioning system are provided. The position and/or orientation of transducers, devices, and/or objects within a physical environment may be utilized to enable steering of lobes and nulls of the transducers, to create self-assembling arrays of the transducers, and to enable monitoring and configuration of the transducers, devices, and objects through an augmented reality interface. The transducers and devices may be more optimally configured which can result in better capture of sound, better reproduction of sound, improved system performance, and increased user satisfaction.

Transducer steering and configuration systems and methods using a local positioning system

A microphone module comprises a housing, an audio bus, and a first plurality of microphones in communication with the audio bus. The microphone module further comprises a module processor in communication with the first plurality of microphones and the audio bus. The module processor is configured to detect the presence of an array processor in communication with the audio bus, detect the presence of a second microphone module in communication with the audio bus, and configure the audio bus to pass audio signals from both the first plurality of microphones and the second microphone module to the array processor.

Endfire linear array microphone systems and methods with consistent directionality and performance at different frequency ranges are provided. The endfire linear array microphone includes a delay and sum beamformer and a differential beamformer. The delay and sum beamformer may produce pickup patterns with good directionality at higher frequency ranges, but cause the pickup patterns to become more omnidirectional at lower frequencies. The differential beamformer may produce pickup patterns with good directionality at lower frequencies. By combining the delay and sum beamformer and differential beamformer within the linear array microphone, the overall directionality of the linear array microphone may be maintained at different frequency ranges while using the same microphone elements.

Endfire linear array microphone

A microphone assembly is provided, comprising a transducer assembly including a first enclosure defining a first acoustic volume and a Micro-Electrical-Mechanical-System ('MEMS') microphone transducer disposed within the first enclosure. The microphone assembly also includes a second enclosure disposed adjacent to the first enclosure and defining a second acoustic volume in acoustic communication with the first acoustic volume, the second enclosure including an acoustic resistance, wherein the first and second acoustic volumes, in cooperation with the acoustic resistance, create an acoustic delay for producing a directional polar pattern. Circuitry comprising a shelving filter configured to correct a portion of a frequency response of the MEMS microphone transducer is also provided. In some embodiments, the circuitry is embedded within the transducer assembly or at least included within the microphone assembly. In other embodiments, the circuitry is located on a cable that is electrically connected to a connection port of the microphone assembly.

Directional MEMS microphone with correction circuitry

An acoustical cap that covers a microphone and allows a user to adjust the frequency response of the sound that the microphone receives. The acoustical cap has at least two different inlets that connect to respective cavities. These inlets and their associated cavities form resonators that have different frequency responses. Because the microphone cap has multiple resonators, a user is able to quickly and easily adjust the frequency response of the sound that the microphone receives by adjusting the orientation of the acoustical cap instead of having to carry multiple acoustical caps.

Interchangeable port acoustical cap for microphones

A microelectromechanical (MEMS) microphone includes a MEMS motor and a gain adjustment apparatus. The MEMS motor includes at least a diaphragm and a charge plate and is configured to receive sound energy and transform the sound energy into an electrical signal. The gain adjustment apparatus has an input and an output and is coupled to the MEMS motor. The gain adjustment apparatus is configured to receive the electrical signal from the MEMS motor at the input and adjust the gain of the electrical signal as measured from the output of the gain adjustment apparatus. The amount of gain is selected so as to obtain a favorable sensitivity for the microphone.

Sensitivity adjustment apparatus and method for MEMS devices

An the acoustic apparatus comprising a first MEMS motor that includes a first diaphragm and a first back plate, and a second MEMS motor that includes a second diaphragm and a second back plate. The first motor is biased with a first electrical polarity and a second motor is biased with a second electrical polarity such that the first electrical polarity and the second electrical polarity are opposite. At the first motor, a first signal is created that is representative of received sound energy. At the second motor, a second signal is created that is representative of the received sound energy. A differential output signal that is the representative of the difference between the first signal and the second signal is obtained. In obtaining the differential output signal, common mode noise between the first motor and the second motor is rejected.
