An apparatus, method and system of wash action control for an automatic washing machine. A manually operable user interface allows selection from between a plurality of discrete agitation speed selections which comprise at least a continuous speed agitation mode for a given agitation period during a wash cycle and an intermittent speed agitation mode for at least a part of a given agitation period. The intermittent speed agitation mode automatically varies agitation speed between at least two sub-periods of the given agitation period. The variation in agitation speed can be between a faster and a slower speed or a certain speed and no agitation.

Washing machine agitation action control

A method is disclosed for producing an end of cycle for a laundry appliance having a drive motor, a timer motor, and at least one water valve. The method includes determining that the drive motor was previously running and is presently turned off, determining that the timer motor is not currently running, determining that the water valves are closed, and producing a signal to indicate the end of the laundry cycle. A laundry appliance is disclosed. The laundry appliance includes a drive motor, a timer motor, at least one water valve, and an intelligent control electrically connected to the drive motor, the timer motor, and the at least one water valve. The intelligent control is adapted for determining an end of cycle signal by determining that the drive motor is turned off, determining that the timer motor is not running, and determining that the water valve is closed.

Method and apparatus for end of cycle signal for laundry appliance

A high efficiency water valve member for a washing appliance includes a hot water valve, a cold water valve, and a low cold water valve. Associated with the hot water valve, the cold water valve, and the low cold water valve are a hot prime mover, a cold prime mover, and a low cold prime mover. These prime movers move their respective valves between their open and closed positions. When filling for a hot wash the hot prime mover and the low cold prime mover are energized to open the hot water valve and the low cold water valve. The cold water valve remains closed. For warm washes all three solenoids are activated to open all three valves. For cold washes the cold prime mover and the low cold prime mover are energized either together or alone to open either or both of the cold water valve and the low cold water valve.

High efficiency water valve for washing appliance

A clothes dryer is provided with control elements which enable a user to set both a drying temperature and the amount of power sent to a main heating element of the dryer during a dryer cycle. In accordance with the most preferred form of the invention, an infinitely variable power supply controller is used to selectively establish the maximum power provided to the main heating element during the dryer cycle. The controller preferably is adjusted by a slider switch mounted on a control panel of the dryer. The switch is preferably provided with indicators to indicate the established power level.

A control system for a clothes dryer includes a control circuit adapted to set the amount of power sent to a main heater of the dryer during various cycles of operation. The control circuit automatically controls the maximum temperature reached in a particular dryer cycle through the use of a thermostat that switches the main heater from a full power setting to a low power setting when the temperature in the dryer reaches a certain maximum preset temperature. By providing low power, rather than no power as the thermostat trips at its preset high temperature, the total drying time required to dry articles of clothing within the dryer is reduced.

A vertical axis clothes washing appliance is configured to meet predetermined energy and water usage factors by establishing a balance between water temperature, water level, and wash performance parameters. In accordance with the overall invention, additional controls for the washing machine enable an energy saving hot wash cycle to be established, with this wash cycle being designed to automatically establish a wash temperature which is intermediate warm and hot water temperature settings.

A self-cleaning filter with a bypass port is provided for a washing machine that recirculates water back to the wash tub. The filter includes a housing with a filter element disposed therein. The filter element normally filters lint and other material from the water drained from the wash tub, with the water then being recirculated back to the wash tub. When the filter element becomes clogged, the water automatically flows through a bypass port in the filter, such that recirculation continues. The filter element is automatically cleaned by back-washing the filter.

An apparatus and method for infinitely variable adjustment of temperature range of a device in multiple selected temperature ranges. The method includes providing a plurality of operational temperature ranges of the device, selection of a desired temperature range, and infinitely variable selection of a specific temperature within a selected range. The apparatus includes a temperature range mechanism limiting operational temperature to first and second temperature ranges, and a control mechanism to select one of the first and second temperature ranges and then infinitely adjusting temperature within the selected range. In the example of a clothes dryer, the invention allows the selection of a higher or lower temperature range for the clothes dryer and, once the range is selected, infinitely variable temperature control within the selected range.

A delay start method of washing laundry allows laundry to be placed in the spin basket of a washing machine, with liquid detergent added to the fabric softener dispenser. After a selected time delay has expired, the basket is spun so as to discharge the detergent onto the laundry. A wash cycle is then started and operated in a normal manner.

A timer knob attachment is provided for an appliance having a control panel with a timer assembly mounted therein. A timer knob extends over the timer shaft to engage the spring arms on the end of the shaft. A locking pin extends rearwardly through the knob and into the timer shaft from the front of the control panel to lock the knob onto the shaft. A cap is mountable on the knob to cover the locking pin.

A washing machine lid having a lid frame is provided with the lid frame including a forward edge, a rear edge, at least first and second opposite side edges, and upper surface and a lower surface. A housing is detachably mounted to the lid frame by a bracket assembly. The bracket assembly retentively engages the lid frame. At least one isecuring member retentively engages the housing and also retentively engages the bracket assembly for attaching the housing to the lid frame.

A housing is detachably mounted to the lid frame by a bracket assembly. The bracket assembly retentively engages the lid frame. At least one securing member retentively engages the housing and also retentively engages the bracket assembly for attaching the housing to the lid frame.

A wash action control system is used to control the agitation speed of a washing machine. The invention includes a wash speed selection switch which controls the agitation speed of the agitator. The wash speed selection switch has an infinite number of possible wash speed settings and includes various secondary switches for affecting various aspects of the wash speed control.

An infinite temperature control system is used to control the temperature of wash and rinse water in a washing machine. The invention includes a temperature selection switch which operates the water valves for controlling the temperature of water entering the washing machine. The switch has an infinite number of possible temperature settings and includes various contacts for affecting various aspects of the water temperature control.

An apparatus and method for preventing a load of clothing from becoming unbalanced during the spin cycle of a washing machine includes a control circuit which causes the washing machine to alternately spin and agitate during the spin cycle of the washing machine. The apparatus includes a pair of electrical relays, a power supply, and logic circuitry. The apparatus and method may include components required to provide self compensation based on user selected water levels.
