A pump that is configured to lift fluids through a tubing string includes a gas mitigation system and a screen flush module. The gas mitigation system has a canister with an interior and an intake screen. The gas mitigation system further includes an intake tube that extends into the canister. The screen flush module is configured to flush solids particles trapped in the intake screen.

A gas mitigation system for use in connection with a subsurface pump includes a shroud hanger that has one or more orifices that permit the passage of fluids through the shroud hanger. A canister connected to the shroud hanger has an open upper end. An intake tube connected to the tubing string extends into the canister. The canister is sized and configured to cause fluids passing around the outside of the canister to accelerate, thereby encouraging the separation of gas and liquid components. The open shroud hanger and open upper end of the canister allow heavier liquid components to fall into the canister, where the liquid-enriched fluid can be drawn into the subsurface pump.

Beam pump gas mitigation system

A well pump assembly has a main pump suspended on a string of production tubing within casing in a well. A charge pump is located below the main pump. An annular sealing element between the charge pump intake and the charge pump discharge seals between the charge pump and the casing. A motor is coupled with the main pump and the charge pump. A bypass member has an open upper end above the main pump intake and a lower end above the sealing element. The bypass member defines a flow path from the discharge of the charge pump upward past the main pump intake, then downward to reach the main pump intake. The bypass member may be a bypass riser extending alongside the main pump, or it may be a shroud surrounding the main pump.

Charge pump for gravity gas separator of well pump

A well pump assembly has a motor operatively connected to a well pump that has an intake. The well pump assembly has a capillary tube that extends alongside the tubing and has an outlet at the well pump assembly. A chemical injection pump is connected to an upper end of the capillary tube adjacent a wellhead of the well. A logic system detects well fluid falling back downward in the tubing and out the intake into the well, and in response turns on the chemical injection pump, which pumps a chemical down the capillary tube into the well adjacent or within the well pump assembly. Once upward flow of well fluid in the tubing has been established, the chemical injection pump may be turned off.

Apparatus and method for injecting a chemical to facilitate operation of a submersible well pump

A lower separator located below a submersible well pump intake has a labyrinth flow path, causing a first well fluid separation of lighter components from heavier components as well fluid flowing into the lower separator turns downward to flow toward a lower separator heavier component port. A bypass riser has a bypass riser inlet below the pump intake and a bypass riser outlet above the pump intake. A lighter component conduit communicates the bypass riser inlet with lighter components of the first well fluid separation, causing a second well fluid separation at the riser outlet as a heavier portion of the lighter components flowing up the riser turn to flow downward to the pump intake. A heavier component conduit bypasses the bypass riser inlet and delivers the heavier components of the first well fluid separation to the pump intake.
