A system includes an excitation system configured to regulate one or more outputs of a power generating system. The excitation system includes a power conversion module (PCM). The PCM includes a direct current (DC) link, a plurality of insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) configured to generate an output to the system, and a nonlinear resistor configured to limit a voltage of the DC link to a predetermined threshold.

Embodiments provide systems and methods for controlling electronic circuitry. A system can include at least a first controller and a second controller and at least one power electronic circuitry module. The first controller can be in electrical communication with the power electronic circuitry module via a first high-speed serial link (HSSL). An exciter system for the field of a synchronous generator excitation is provided. The exciter system includes an AC power source; a three-phase thyristor bridge having six legs, the three-phase bridge being connectable with the AC power source, and being adapted to provide a variable DC voltage output; a thyristor in each of the six legs of the three-phase bridge, wherein the thyristors provide a path for a device current; and a three-phase AC line filter series, including series resistive and capacitive elements across each phase of the AC power source and a plurality of bleed resistors, wherein at least one bleed resistor is connected to each AC input connection of the filter.

A flux coil system has a first member having a first surface and a first flux coil being disposed in the first member. The flux coil has a first current flowing conduit having a second surface. When current traverses through the first current flowing conduit a first magnetic field is induced. The first surface is adjacent to the second surface such that the first flux coil is in the first magnetic field so that a signal is developed corresponding to the first magnetic field.

Grouped gating control logic allows for one or more inputs in a group to be active at any given time. Once an input signal in a group is active, all other pulse trains received in the same group can be locked out. Thus, by using a finite state machine to control gate pulses, the noise margin of the gating unit can be regulated and an extra level of protection is available should one of the input gating signals be defective.
