A biopsy tract sealant applicator device includes a housing and a syringe having a body that is configured to move in an interior chamber of the housing between an extended position and a retracted position. The body is configured for connection to a biopsy cannula. A plunger of the syringe has a piston configured to move in a cylinder of the syringe between a proximal position and a distal position. The spring unit is coupled to the body of the syringe and to the housing. A gear train is operatively coupled to each of the housing, the body of the syringe, and the plunger of the syringe. The gear train is configured to move the plunger of the syringe from the proximal position toward the distal position as the body is moved from the extended position toward the retracted position by a biasing force exerted by the spring unit.

A sealant injection needle assembly includes a cannula assembly and a stylet assembly. The cannula assembly has a cannula hub and a cannula having a first longitudinal sealant passage and a second longitudinal sealant passage. A distal coupler portion is coupled to the drive body and is configured to operate a distal latch member. The distal latch member latches the drive body to the intraosseous device when the distal coupler portion is in a distal coupler latch position. The distal coupler portion has a distal housing portion that is movable in either of a distal direction or a proximal direction. The distal coupler portion has a distal release position and a proximal release position. The distal housing portion is configured to move the distal coupler portion to a release position to operate the distal latch member.

The cannula proximal end portion is coupled to the housing of the handpiece. A stylet has a shaft portion and a distal heat conductive body. The distal heat conductive body is electrically coupled to the heat control circuit. The distal heat conductive body has a first end and a tapered portion that distally terminates at a second end. The shaft portion is located, at least in part, in the cannula lumen. The insulator member is configured to thermally separate the cannula distal end from the distal heat conductive body of the stylet.

A first mesh electrode connects to and extends between a distal end portion of the inner stylet and a distal end of the first intermediate cannula, and is movable between a first extended position and a first retracted position by an axial movement of the inner stylet and/or the first intermediate cannula. A second mesh electrode connects to and extends between a distal end of the second intermediate cannula and a distal end of the outer cannula, and is movable between a second extended position and a second retracted position by an axial movement of the second intermediate cannula and/or the outer cannula.

A method for use in a lung access procedure to aid in preventing pneumothorax includes providing a cannula having a pair of balloons, the pair of balloons including a first balloon longitudinally spaced from a second balloon along the cannula; inserting the cannula along an access opening and through pleural layers, with the first balloon and the second balloon of the pair of balloons respectively positioned on opposite sides of the pleural layers; inflating the pair of balloons with a first amount of a two-component sealant to compress the pleural layers together; and inflating the pair of balloons with a second amount of the two-component sealant that is sufficient to rupture the pair of balloons so as to comingle a first sealant component and a second sealant component of the two-component sealant at the site of the pleural layers so as to adhere the pleural layers together.
