A display device includes a substrate including a display area and a peripheral area. A display element is disposed in the display area and is electrically connected to a thin film transistor. A power supply line is disposed in the peripheral area. An insulating layer covers a portion of the power supply line. A barrier layer is disposed on the insulating layer and includes a first side surface facing the display area and a second side surface facing away from the display area. At least one of the first side surface or the second side surface includes a concavo-convex surface. The barrier layer forms a step difference with respect to an upper surface of the insulating layer. An end of the insulating layer is positioned beyond the second side surface of the barrier layer on a side of the barrier layer facing away from the display area.

A method of fabricating a display device, the method comprising: preparing a mother substrate having a first cell region and a second cell region, and a first target region and a second target region in the first cell region and the second cell region, respectively; providing an encapsulation material on a first printing region in the first target region to form a first encapsulation layer; and providing the encapsulation material on a second printing region in the second target region to form a second encapsulation layer, wherein a center of the second printing region is shifted from a center of the second target region in a specific direction.

A display device includes a substrate including a display area and a peripheral area surrounding the display area; a display element in the display area and electrically connected to a thin film transistor; a power supply line in the peripheral area; an insulating layer covering a portion of the power supply line; and a barrier layer on the insulating layer and including a first side surface facing the display area and a second side surface that is opposite to the first side surface, wherein at least one of the first side surface and the second side surface includes a concavo-convex surface, wherein the barrier layer forms a step difference with respect to an upper surface of the insulating layer, and an end of the insulating layer extends from the display area in a direction toward an edge of the substrate beyond the second side surface of the barrier layer.

A display device includes a backlight assembly and a display panel which displays an image. The backlight assembly includes a light emitting unit which generates light, and an optical member which adjusts a path of the light incident thereto and outputs the light toward the display panel. The optical member includes a first base film to which the light is incident, a second base film closer to the display panel than the first base film and for which are defined first and second areas alternately disposed, a first optical pattern between the first and second base films at the first area, where the first optical pattern refracts therein the light incident to the first base film, and a second optical pattern between the first and second base films at the second area, where the second optical pattern scatters the light incident to the first base film.

Provided is a backlight unit including a printed circuit board, a light-emitting diode package, a diffusion plate, and a reflection sheet. The light-emitting diode package including a light-emitting part configured to generate a first light. The diffusion plate includes a first diffusion pattern provided on a first region corresponding to the light-emitting diode package and a second diffusion pattern provided on a second region to have a transmittance higher than that of the first diffusion pattern. The reflection sheet includes an absorption pigment configured to absorb a fraction of the first light with a specific wavelength and converting the first light to a second light, and the reflection sheet is configured to reflect the second light toward the first diffusion pattern. The backlight unit can have improved color coordinate uniformity.

A liquid crystal display apparatus includes a liquid crystal display panel which displays an image, a light guide plate, a backlight unit including a light source part which generates and supplies light, and a panel temperature adjusting member on a surface of the liquid crystal display panel. The panel temperature adjusting member includes a transparent resistor, and a power supply which supplies power to the transparent resistor. The transparent resistor emits a larger amount of heat to a region of the liquid crystal display panel, which is distant from the light source part, than to a region close to the light source part, such that the liquid crystal display panel has uniform temperature distribution.

Liquid crystal display apparatuses

A display device capable of accurately sensing object presence at lower power consumption is presented, as well as a method of driving the display device. The display device includes a sensing circuit that detects the presence of an object by sensing radiation, and a radiation source array that provides radiation to the sensing circuit. First signals are provided to the scan lines of the sensing circuit, sequentially activating the sensors during a frame period. Second signals are provided to a radiation source array to selectively activate different portions of the radiation source array. The first and second signals are synchronized in their timing such that the portion of the radiation source array that supplies radiation to the activated sensors are turned on.

Energy-efficient display apparatus with object-sensing capability

A backlight assembly includes a light source generating light and a first optical member diffusing the light. The first optical member includes a first diffusion member provided on an exit surface of the first optical member, from which the light exits, to diffuse the light. The first diffusion member includes a plurality of edges each having a curved shape and extending between the exit surface and a vertex of the first diffusion member. Accordingly, the light exiting through the exit surface is effectively diffused by the edges of the first diffusion member.

A three-dimensional ('3D') image display device includes a backlight unit. The backlight unit includes a light guide part including a plurality of light guide units. Each of the light guide units includes a light guide plate including a light emission surface through which supplied light is emitted, a bottom surface which faces the light emission surface, and side surfaces which connect the light emission surface to the bottom surface, a plurality of light sources which emit light toward at least one of the side surfaces, and a band pass filter between the side surface to which the light is emitted and the light sources.
