Disclosed is a negative electrode including: a current collector; a negative electrode active material layer disposed on at least one surface of the current collector, including a silicon-based active material and a conductive material, and containing no binder polymer; and a coating layer disposed on the surface of the negative electrode active material layer and in at least a part of the inside of the pores of the negative electrode active material layer, and containing a coating layer polymer forming a chemical bond with silicon (Si) of the silicon-based active material, wherein the content of the coating layer polymer is 0.3-2 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the negative electrode active material layer, and the coating layer polymer is a mixture of polyacrylic acid with polyvinyl alcohol.

The present invention provides an electrode assembly, in which a plurality of electrodes are laminated, and a separator is inserted between adjacent electrodes. The outermost electrode disposed at an outermost layer of the electrode assembly includes a slurry applied to one surface of a current collector, and a protection layer adhered to the other surface of the current collector. Further, the outermost electrode is laminated to allow the slurry to contact the separator. Furthermore, a method for manufacturing the electrode assembly comprises applying a slurry to one surface of a current collector and laminating a protection layer on the other surface of the current collector to form an outermost electrode; allowing the outermost electrode to pass between a pair of press-rollers to perform a rolling process; and laminating the rolled outermost electrode to be disposed on an uppermost layer or a lowermost layer of the electrode assembly.

The present disclosure relates to an electrode having improved safety and a secondary battery including the same. It is possible to prevent or significantly reduce an internal short-circuit between a positive electrode current collector and a negative electrode current collector and an internal short-circuit between a positive electrode current collector and a negative electrode active material layer, caused by nail penetration, by controlling the elongation of a positive electrode to 0.6-1.5%.
