The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for driving a PDP (plasma display panel). An image signal processor of the apparatus performs gamma correction and error diffusion processes of input image signals. A quantization error compensator compensates quantization errors with respect to an automatic power control (APC) level of image data output from the image signal processor. An error diffuser sets part of the image data output from the quantization error compensator as display errors and diffuses the display errors to peripheral pixels. A memory control and address driver generates sub-field and address data corresponding to image data that have undergone error diffusion by the error diffuser, and applies the data to the PDP. An APC and sustain/scan pulse generator generates a sub-field arrangement structure according to the APC level, generates control signals based on the generated sub-field arrangement, and applies the control signals to the PDP.

Apparatus and method for driving plasma display panel to enhance display of gray scale and color

Disclosed are a PDP and a driving method thereof. A falling ramp, having the same or greater gradient as that of a falling ramp pulse applied to a Y electrode, is applied to an X electrode in part of a Y ramp falling period during which a falling ramp pulse is applied to the Y electrode. Therefore, high-rate addressing may be allowed and discharge efficiency may be improved since the maximum wall voltage may be formed within a range in which no erroneous discharge may be generated to the X and Y electrodes in a reset period.

Plasma display panel and driving method thereof

A PDP address data processor, a method thereof, and a recording medium for storing a program used to perform the method. The address data processor generates subfield data corresponding to RGB input video data, divides them into two sets of subfield data, and stores them in a frame memory using rising and falling edges of a reference clock signal of a frame memory. The address data processor reads and arranges the stored subfield data using the rising and falling edges to generate address data for representing gray on the PDP. The address data processor uses an RGB mixing algorithm for selecting two different video data from among the RGB input video data to select video data, and generates the subfield data corresponding to the selected video data.

The apparatus divides an image signal into frame units, obtains an input gradient of a frame from the image signal, performs a time division gradient display on the discharge display panel according to the input gradient by dividing the frame into a plurality of subfields having respective gradient weights, and has at least two subfields having a least gradient weight.

In a method of resetting a plasma display panel including a front substrate and a rear substrate separated from each other and facing each other, in which a first electrode line and second display electrode line are formed parallel to each other on the front substrate and address electrode lines are formed perpendicular to the first electrode line and the second display electrode lines, a voltage applied to the first display electrode lines is gradually increased up to a first voltage. Then, a voltage applied to the second display electrode lines is gradually increased up to a second voltage higher than the first voltage while the voltage applied to the first display electrode lines is gradually increased up to a third voltage lower than the first voltage. The voltage applied to the first display electrode lines is maintained at the first voltage while the voltage applied to the second display electrode lines is gradually decreased down to a fourth voltage lower than the third voltage.
