An endplay structure is provided for controlling endplay of a shaftof a motor. The endplay structure includes a bodyincluding a generally elliptically shaped recesstherein. The recess is constructed and arranged to be disposed generally adjacent to an end of the shaft. An engagement memberhas a generally spherical portion constructed and arranged to be received in a press-fit arrangement with the recess. The engagement member has a surfaceconstructed and arranged to contact the end of the shaft. Whereby, when the surface of the engagement member is contacted by the end of the shaft, the spherical portion of the engagement member is press-fitted into the recess to control endplay of the shaft.

Bi-directional electric motor with endplay structure

A motor assemblyincludes an electric motorhaving a rotatable shaft, the shafthaving a worm; and a gear unitoperatively associated with the motor, the gear unit has first and second opposing ends. The gear unitincludes a gearwheeloperatively coupled with the wormof the shaftsuch that rotation of the shaft rotates the gearwheel. A driveris operatively coupled with gearwheel so as to rotate therewith. The driveris constructed and arranged to provide a driving memberaccessible at each of the first and second ends of the gear unit.

A coverplateand gearhousingare provided for an electric motor. The coverplateincludes loop structureand the gearhousing includes guidessuch that the loop structure engages with the guides in a snap-fit arrangement to secure the coverplate with respect to the gearhousing. The coverplateincludes locatorsextending therefrom and the gearhousingincludes groovessuch that the locatorsare received in the grooveswhen the loop structure and guides are in the snap-fit arrangement so as to prevent rotation of the coverplate with respect to the gearhousing about an axis.

A bushing structureis constructed and arranged to be operatively associated with a shaftof an electric motor. The motor has a housingincluding a generally elliptical recesstherein defined along an axis C of the shaft. The bushing structure includes a generally cylindrical bushing memberconstructed and arranged to engage an end of the shaft so as to locate the shaft with respect to the housing and to prevent lockup of the motor. An endplay memberis associated with the bushing member and with the end of the shaft. The endplay member includes a spherical portion constructed and arranged to be received in the elliptical recess so as to control endplay of the shaft.
