Aspects of the disclosure include a light feeding system for a display that uses micro light-emitting diodes (LEDs) laminated into glass for light guide applications. An exemplary display can include a light feeding system having one or more micro LEDs on a surface of a backplane. An optical bonding collimator is positioned over and in direct contact with a surface of the micro LEDs. The optical bonding collimator is on the surface of the backplane. A light guide is coupled to an end of the optical bonding collimator such that the optical bonding collimator is between the light guide and the backplane. One or more inner reinforcing layers are in direct contact with the light feeding system and one or more outer layers are in direct contact with the inner reinforcing layers. The light feeding system is laminated with the inner reinforcing layers and the outer layers.

A light guide enabled lamp includes a light guide. A light source positioned at an edge of the light guide directs light generated by energizing the light source throughout a length of the light guide reflective layer disposed on the light guide. A reflective layer is disposed on the light guide. A graphics pattern is formed on the light guide defining nano-scale optic patterns by a surface etching of the light guide. A polymeric material coating is applied over the light source, the light guide and the reflective layer. A coating is applied over the polymeric material coating using one of a wet coating process, a dry coating process, an in-mold injection-compression or lamination film application, and a post molding process.

A method includes energizing a light source of a vehicular lamp assembly according to a duty cycle. The light source emits light responsive to being energized. While energizing the light source, and during an off-cycle of the duty cycle, the method includes transmitting an outgoing short-range wireless communication to a user device. The outgoing short-range wireless communication is transmitted from an antenna at the vehicular lamp assembly. During the off-cycle of the duty cycle, the method includes receiving an incoming short-range wireless communication at the antenna at the vehicular lamp assembly. The incoming short-range wireless communication is transmitted from the user device responsive to the outgoing short-range wireless communication.

Aspects of the disclosure include light-emitting diodes (LEDs) formed without phosphor deformation during the lamination process. An exemplary method can include forming one or more LEDs on a backplane and forming a protective layer on the backplane. The protective layer can be patterned to define one or more trenches exposing sidewalls of a respective one LED of the one or more LEDs and a surface of the backplane. Each trench can be filled with a color-shifting coating. The method includes laminating the one or more LEDs, the backplane, the protective layer, and the color-shifting coating between one or more inner reinforcing layers and one or more outer layers to define a display.

A composite structure includes a structural composite including a plurality of reinforcing fibers encapsulated in a first polymer resin. M sets of traces are arranged on the structural composite. N sets of microLEDs are arranged on the structural composite and connected to the M sets of traces, respectively, where M and N are integers greater than zero. One or more cables are connected to the M sets of traces. The structural composite, the M sets of traces, the N sets of microLEDs, a portion of the one or more cables are encapsulated in a second polymer resin. The second polymer resin includes an integrated lens adjacent to the N sets of microLEDs.

The display includes a substrate, a light source disposed at a first location of the substrate, a light sensor disposed at a second location of the substrate, and a first optical medium disposed on the substrate over the light source. An exemplary vehicle includes a component having a lens. The lens includes a light pipe configured such that opposite sidewalls of the light pipe face each other across an airgap, a first reflector surface having a first reflective material formed on a first sidewall of the opposite sidewalls, a second reflector surface having a second reflective material formed on a second sidewall of the opposite sidewalls, and a third surface positioned between the first reflector surface and the second reflector surface and configured such that light can pass through the third surface and into the airgap. A path of light within the airgap is elongated due to internal reflections between the first reflector surface and the second reflector surface, thereby providing an infinity mirror effect.

Aspects of the disclosure include lighting assemblies and methods of using the same that leverage auto-shading laminates to support a common cavity for mixed lighting applications. An exemplary vehicle includes a lighting assembly having a common cavity. The common cavity includes an outer lens coated with an auto-shading film, a primary light source positioned behind the outer lens, a secondary light source positioned on an edge of the outer lens, and a wire embedded in the auto-shading film. The auto-shading film includes discrete substructures which vary in alignment in response to an electric field, thereby varying a transmittance through the outer lens. A controller is electrically coupled to the wire. The controller is configured to direct a switching voltage to a switch to change a state of the switch, thereby causing the wire to deliver the electric field to the discrete substructures to change the transmittance of the auto-shading film.

The lens array is configured to reduce an occurrence of total internal reflection of the light ray at the second interface.
