A three-dimensional holographic display device includes a light emitting diode (LED) array including a plurality of light sources controlled to sequentially output light according to a preset pattern, a lens configured to refract light incident from the LED array, a spatial light modulator (SLM) configured to modulate light incident from the lens, and a processor configured to generate a plurality of holographic signals each comprising depth information adjusted according to an arrangement location of each of the plurality of light sources, and for each of the plurality of light sources, control the SLM to modulate the light based on a holographic signal corresponding to the light source.

A display apparatus capable of providing an expanded viewing window includes a light guide plate including an input coupler and an output coupler; and an image providing apparatus facing the input coupler to provide an image to the input coupler. Disclosed are a method and a system for processing a computer-generated hologram (CGH). The system for processing a CGH includes a CGH generation apparatus and a display apparatus. The CGH generation apparatus repeatedly performs a process of propagating object data from a first depth layer to a second depth layer, changing amplitude data of the object data to second predefined amplitude data, back-propagating the object data from the second depth layer to the first depth layer, and changing the amplitude data of the object data to first predefined amplitude data, and generates a CGH by using the object data.

A beam deflection layer includes: a first selective polarization conversion-splitter that splits first color light in an incident light beam into 1A color light and 1B color light having different polarization directions from each other; a first beam deflector that deflects the 1A first first color light in the light beam from the 1A first selective polarization conversion-splitter, a first selective polarization converter that converts polarization directions of the 1A first first color light and the 1B second first color light in the light beam from the 1A first beam deflector, and a 1B second beam deflector configured to deflect the 1B second first color light in the light beam from the first selective polarization converter. A holographic display apparatus includes a backlight unit having a light source configured to emit coherent light, a spatial light modulator configured to diffract incident light from the backlight unit and generate a holographic image, a beam deflector configured to change a traveling direction of the incident light from the backlight unit to change a focal position of the holographic image, an eye-tracking sensor configured to recognize positions of a viewer's eyeballs, and a controller configured to perform, in real time, calibration of the eye-tracking sensor and the beam deflector to focus the holographic image on the recognized positions of the viewer's eyeballs.

Holographic display apparatus, head-up display apparatus, and image providing method

Provided is a holographic display apparatus including: a spatial light modulator that modulates a wavefront of a reference beam to form a hologram image; an optical element arranged to change a position of a viewing window of the hologram image off-axis by a first angle; and an image processor that generates hologram data according to the position of the viewing window of the hologram image and a hologram image to be reproduced, and provides the hologram data to the spatial light modulator. The hologram image formed by the spatial light modulator is viewable from a side of the spatial light modulator.

A geometric phase optical element and a three-dimensional display apparatus including the same are provided. The geometric phase optical element includes: a liquid crystal layer; a first electrode on a surface of the liquid crystal layer; and a second electrode on another surface of the liquid crystal layer, wherein, when no voltage is applied to the first and second electrodes, the liquid crystal layer is configured such that a phase difference according to an arrangement of the liquid crystal is π and light transmitted through the liquid crystal layer is diffracted by a first deflection angle, and when a first voltage that causes the phase difference according to the arrangement of the liquid crystal to become π/2 is applied to the first and second electrodes, the liquid crystal layer is configured such that the light transmitted through the liquid crystal layer is diffracted by a second deflection angle.

Provided is a method of generating a computer-generated hologram (CGH), the method including obtaining complex data including amplitude data of object data and phase data of the object data corresponding to a spatial light modulator (SLM) plane by propagating the object data from an image plane to the SLM plane, encoding the complex data into encoded amplitude data, and generating a CGH based on the object data including the encoded amplitude data.
