A method for transmitting a three-dimensional (3D) caption signal and caption display method are disclosed to three-dimensionally display caption text such that it fits a 3D image in a 3D display device. 3D caption box configuration information and caption text are generated to display a 3D caption within a 3D image, and the 3D caption box configuration information and the caption text are inserted into a video picture header region to code the image signal, and then, the image signal is transmitted. In the caption display method, a broadcast signal including a 3D image signal is received, and 3D caption box configuration information and caption text included in the broadcast signal are acquired. A caption image including 3D caption text disposed within a 3D caption box is then generated based on the 3D caption box configuration information and the caption text, and displayed.

3D caption signal transmission method and 3D caption display method

A method for processing a 3D image signal and an image display device for implementing the method are provided. The 3D image signal processing method is implemented by the 3D image display device. Although an image signal transmission side transmits information to be included in a plurality of image signals, while omitting a portion of the information, a receiver can synthesize the transmitted information to reproduce an image. The device restores at least one image from a broadcast signal, and additionally generates an image at a virtual camera view from the restored image and displays it three-dimensionally. To this end, the image display device receives a broadcast signal and obtains at least one set of camera parameters from signaling information. Then, the image display device generates a virtual view image according to the camera parameters, and formats the virtual view image and the broadcast image included in the broadcast signal three-dimensionally.

A method for transmitting a 3D image signal an image display device, and an image signal processing method of the device are provided in order to reduce a collision between depth cues, which may occur in the vicinity of left and right corners in reproducing a 3D image. In the method for processing an image signal, first, an encoded video signal is obtained. Next, the encoded video signal is decoded to restore a plurality of image signals, and floating window information of each floating window is extracted from a picture header area of the encoded video signal. And then, an image at an inner area of left or right corner is suppressed according to the floating window information with respect to each of the plurality of images corresponding to the plurality of image signals, and the locally suppressed images are displayed in a stereoscopic manner.

The method comprising identifying a virtual channel carrying a 3D broadcast service delivering additional and base view video streams encoded using different codecs using a service type field, wherein the service type field is included in a TVCT of a PSIP in an ATSC-type digital broadcast and identifying a codec type of each of the base and the additional view video streams using a stream type field included in a PMT, wherein the stream type field is related to each of the base and the additional view video streams, and wherein a value of the stream type field indicates the codec type of each of the base and the additional view video streams. The method also comprising processing base and additional view video streams for supporting the 3D broadcast service using the TVCT.

When the 3D display apparatus receives image signals of first and second images for implementing 3D image in a stereoscopic scheme, the 3D display apparatus receives closed caption data only for a base view determined from the first and second images. Then, the display apparatus determines the position of a closed caption for an extended view based on the closed caption data for the base view and a certain 3D caption information, and formats caption graphic data for the base view and the extended view to output 3D closed caption in a stereoscopic format.

The relative position relationship may include at least any one of the direction in which the camera, which has generated the extension view video stream, is positioned and the degree of separation in the direction based on the camera which has generated the base view video stream. Accordingly, a signal for a stereoscopic image in a digital broadcast can be checked and processed, so a stereoscopic image can be displayed.
