A battery module is disclosed. In one aspect, the battery module includes: a plurality of rechargeable batteries electrically connected to each other, wherein each of the rechargeable batteries comprises a first short-circuit generator configured to be short-circuited based on an increase in battery internal pressure. The battery module also includes a positive electrode and a negative electrode respectively connected to first and second ones of the rechargeable batteries and a first drawn-out tab and a second drawn-out tab respectively connected to the positive and negative electrodes. The battery module further includes a switch configured to electrically connect the negative electrode and the second drawn-out tab and a second short-circuit generator electrically connected to the switch, wherein the second short-circuit generator overlaps, in the height dimension of each of the rechargeable batteries, the first short-circuit generator of the second rechargeable battery.

A secondary battery includes a case; an electrode assembly accommodated in the case, and including a first electrode plate, a second electrode plate, and a separator between the first and second electrode plates; a first terminal portion electrically connected to the electrode assembly; and a cap plate configured to cover an opening of the case, and the first terminal portion includes a first electrode terminal passing through the cap plate to protrude upward from a first position of the cap plate, and a first current collector including a first end connected to the first electrode terminal, and a second end connected to the first electrode plate, the first current collector including a plurality of notches.

Secondary battery

A rechargeable battery according to one or more exemplary embodiments includes: a pair of electrode assemblies, each including a first electrode including a coated region, a tab, and a connecting tab, a second electrode including a coated region, a tab, and a connecting tab, and a separator between the first electrode and the second electrode, the first electrode, the separator, and the second electrode being wound; a case accommodating the pair of electrode assemblies; a cap plate at an opening of the case and defining terminal openings; and first and second electrode terminals respectively connected to the tabs of the first and second electrodes and respectively passing through the terminal openings. The pair of electrode assemblies are electrically connected to each other via the connecting tabs.

Rechargeable battery having improved current density

A battery module includes an electrode assembly in a case, at least one current collector in the case, the current collector being electrically connected to the electrode assembly, a cap plate covering the case, the cap plate including a safety vent and at least one terminal inserter penetrating the cap plate, at least one terminal part including a terminal plate outside the case and a connector connecting the at least one current collector to the terminal plate through the at least one terminal inserter, at least one fixing member fixing the terminal part into the cap plate, and a groove pattern in an area of the cap plate adjacent to the safety vent.

A battery unit includes a case accommodating an electrode assembly and having an opening, and a cap plate cover the opening, and having a terminal insertion portion. The battery unit further includes a terminal member inserted into the case through the terminal insertion portion from an exterior of the case and coupled to the electrode assembly, the terminal member having a terminal portion, extending in a major side direction of the cap plate at an exterior of the cap plate, and being separated from an upper surface of the cap plate. The battery unit further includes a fixing member in the terminal insertion portion fixing the terminal member to the cap plate and having injection-molded plastic resin in the terminal insertion portion surrounding the terminal member; and a support member coupled to the cap plate and supporting the terminal portion with respect to the cap plate.

Battery unit and battery module using the same

A battery unit includes a case accommodating an electrode assembly, the case having an opening and a cap plate for covering the opening, the cap plate having a terminal insertion portion. The battery unit further includes a terminal member inserted into the case through the terminal insertion portion from an outside of the case and coupled to the electrode assembly, the terminal member including a current collector electrically coupled to the electrode assembly; a terminal portion extending parallel to an upper surface of the cap plate to an outside of the cap plate; and a connection portion electrically coupled to the current collector and to the terminal portion. The battery unit further includes a fixing member in the terminal insertion portion and fixing the terminal member to the cap plate, the fixing member including injection-molded plastic resin in the terminal insertion portion and surrounding the terminal member.
