A multiview image display device is disclosed. The multiview image display device comprises: an image input unit for receiving an image; a rendering unit for rendering a plurality of views of different visual views on the basis of the depth of the inputted image; a display unit for displaying a multiview image generated on the basis of a pixel value constituting the plurality of views; and a control unit for generating the multiview image by mapping, to at least one target pixel area, a mixed pixel value obtained based on the pixel value of a specific visual view and the pixel value of a visual view adjacent to the specific visual view among the plurality of views.

A content providing apparatus is disclosed. The content providing apparatus comprises: a communication unit for communicating with an external apparatus; an image processing unit for generating a compressed image by image-processing an input original image; and a control unit for controlling the communication unit to divide the original image into one or more regions based on the image quality, to obtain characteristic information for each region from the respective regions, and to transmit the obtained characteristic information for each region together with the compressed image to the external apparatus. As the result, the display apparatus may perform image quality improvement operation so that the image quality is close to the original quality level by extracting information required for improving the image quality and transmitting the same together with a compressed image in production and encoding steps before transmitting the image.

A hologram generating apparatus is provided. The apparatus includes a hologram signal generating unit configured to, based on light projected on at least some points corresponding to an object, generate a hologram signal corresponding to the at least some points on at least one two-dimensional plane, a processor configured to calculate a sparsity corresponding to the two-dimensional plane based on the hologram signal, and to calculate a fringe pattern based on at least some of the hologram signal, and a pattern writing unit configured to record the fringe pattern on a computer-generated holography (CGH) plane, wherein the processor is further configured to repeatedly calculate a fringe pattern until a number of dominant signals of the calculated fringe pattern coincides with a predetermined threshold value determined based on the sparsity.

Apparatuses and methods for converting an overlay area of a two-dimensional (2D) monoscopic image into a three-dimensional (3D) image are provided. A depth map representing a perspective based on an input monoscopic image is generated to provide depth values of the input monoscopic image. At least one overlay area and at least one background image included in the input monoscopic image are then detected, and a depth value of one or more or both of the overlay area and the background image are corrected to a desired value. A stereoscopic image is generated based on the corrected depth value, such that the resulting stereoscopic image prevents inconsistent viewing depths between an overlay area and the background image in order to prevent viewer fatigue.

Provided are an apparatus and method for converting a two-dimensional (2D) image into a three-dimensional (3D) image. The method includes generating a first depth map by estimating depth information of an input image, wherein the input image is a 2D image; analyzing characteristics of the input image; predicting an error of the first depth map; determining a parameter for adjusting the first depth map based on the analyzed characteristics of the input image and the predicted error of the first depth map; adjusting the first depth map based on the determined parameter; and generating a 3D image of the input image based on the adjusted first depth map.

A three-dimensional (3D) video apparatus and a method of providing an OSD object applied thereto are provided.
