A memory card and a memory storage device using the memory card may be provided. The memory card may include a host connector, a memory controller connected to the host connector and enabled or disabled in response to a capacity expansion signal, a non-volatile memory connected to the memory controller, a memory connector configured to connect to the memory controller and the non-volatile memory, and a capacity expansion switch configured to generate the capacity expansion signal. Accordingly, when the memory cards are connected to increase storage capacity, only a memory controller of one memory card may operate, thereby reducing power consumption.

Apparatus for testing a nonvolatile memory and a method thereof

A control system includes a nonvolatile memory chip and a controller. The controller transfers a group of data from exterior to the nonvolatile memory chip based on the capacity of the nonvolatile memory, and enables the programming of the transferred data in the nonvolatile memory chip while transferring a new group of data. When transferring the group of data to the memory chip, the controller determines whether all the data are transferred from the exterior to the controller, and, if the all the data are transferred to the controller, transfers the group of data to the memory chip. Also, the controller controls the period of the data programming according to the capacity of the nonvolatile memory. Thus, data transfer and program operations are performed at the same time regardless of the memory capacity.

Method and device for programming nonvolatile semiconductor memory

A microcontroller includes an electrically erasable and programmable nonvolatile memory and a memory controller for controlling the nonvolatile memory. Upon writing a control program for the microcontroller and data into the nonvolatile memory pursuant to an externally provided NVM command or an internally issued program command, a CPU of the microcontroller does not intervene in controlling the nonvolatile memory. Particularly, in a programming mode set by the external program command, CPU, buses, and communication interfaces of the microcontroller are deactivated. Further, the memory controller receives a NVM command, an address and data from outside of the microcontroller for controlling an operation of the nonvolatile memory based on the NVM command and the address without intervention of the CPU.

Single-chip data processing apparatus incorporating an electrically rewritable nonvolatile memory and method of operating the same

A microprocessor capable of functioning in an expanded address mode is disclosed, including: a control unit for determining whether an external instruction is to be used for a normal address mode or to be used for an expanded address mode and for generating control signals; a program counter for generating a first address in response to an output from the control unit during the normal and expanded address modes; an address generator for generating a second address during the expanded address mode, in response to an output from the control unit; an address bus for transferring the first address out of the microprocessor; and a data bus for transferring the second address out of the microprocessor. The microprocessor also includes an address interface circuit for transferring the second address out of the microprocessor through the data bus.
