A printer including a body, a developer cartridge, and a developer level sensor. The body includes a printing unit to print an image on a print medium based on electrophotography. The developer cartridge is attachable to the body and includes a developer container including a developer, and a developer outlet provided at a length-direction side of the developer container to supply the developer from the developer container to the printing unit. The developer level sensor is installed on the body near the developer outlet to generate an electrical detection signal based on a developer level in the developer container.

A developing device including a developing roller mounted in a developing chamber is provided. In the developing device, the developing roller is partially exposed to an environment outside the developing chamber through an opening portion of the developing chamber, an air inlet is provided between an upstream boundary of the opening portion in a rotational direction of the developing roller and an outercircumference of the developing roller, wherein air may pass into the developing chamber through the air inlet, and an air outlet may be formed near the upstream boundary of the opening portion and communicatively connected to the developing chamber so as to discharge the air in the developing chamber. The air outlet is located outside an effective image area in a length direction of the developing roller.

A developing device includes a developer transport path through which a developer is agitated and transported, a developing roller mounted in the developer transport path, a discharging unit extending from the developer transport path in a length direction of the developing roller, the discharging unit including an air outlet from which air is discharged and a developer discharge outlet from which the developer is discharged, and a separating member mounted in the discharging unit to separate an inner portion of the discharging unit into an air discharge path, connecting the developer transport path and the air outlet, and a developer discharge path, connecting the developer transport path and the developer discharge outlet.

A developing device comprising a developer transporting unit including a developer inlet through which a developer is reintroduced, a developer outlet through which the developer is discharged, and a developing roller mounted in the developer transporting unit; and a developer circulator including a first connection opening connected to the developer outlet, to receive the developer discharged through the developer outlet, a second connection opening connected to the developer inlet to reintroduce the developer through the developer inlet into the developer transporting unit, a waste opening through which the developer is discarded, and a guide member mounted in the developer circulator to selectively guide the developer received through the first connection opening to the second connection opening or to the waste opening.
