An apparatus for controlling movement of a vehicle includes processing means configured to: receive first signals from a receiving means in dependence on received transmitted signals from a remote control device indicating a requested motion of a vehicle; receive one or more second signals indicative of a diagnostic device being in operative communication with the vehicle; and provide an output signal for controlling movement of the vehicle in dependence on the requested motion. The output signal is inhibited if: a diagnostic device is in operative communication with the vehicle and a maintenance mode has not been activated, as determined from the first signals or from one or more third signals; or if a door or the bonnet is open, unless a diagnostic device is in operative communication with the vehicle; or if the vehicle weight is not being borne by the wheels unless a diagnostic device is in operative communication with the vehicle.

Apparatus and method for controlling movement of a vehicle

Apparatus for controlling movement of a vehicle, a system and vehicle comprising the apparatus, and a method for controlling the movement of a vehicle are disclosed. The apparatus comprises a controller configured to receive first signals from a receiving means in dependence on received transmitted signals from a remote control device indicating a requested motion of a vehicle and to receive second signals indicative of a value of traction of the vehicle. A maximum speed value for the vehicle is determined in dependence on the value of traction of the vehicle and/or on one or both of the detected pitch and roll angles of the vehicle. The controller provides an output signal for controlling speed of the vehicle based on the requested motion. The output signal is limited dependent upon the maximum speed value determined by the controller.

Controlling movement of a vehicle

Embodiments of the present invention provide a controller () for controlling movement of a vehicle (), and a corresponding method. The controller () comprises processing means configured to: receive () a first signal indicative of the vehicle being in a remote control drive mode; receive () a second signal indicative of operation of a main input device (S,) within the vehicle (); and provide () an output signal for applying a braking force to slow the vehicle () to a stop in dependence on said first and second signals.

Apparatus () for controlling movement of a vehicle (), a system () and vehicle() comprising the apparatus (), and a method () for controlling the movement of a vehicle () are disclosed. The apparatus () comprises a controller () configured to receive first signals from a receiving means () in dependence on received transmitted signals from a remote control device () indicating a requested motion of a vehicle and to receive second signals indicative of a value of traction of the vehicle. A maximum speed 10 value for the vehicle is determined in dependence on the value of traction of the vehicle and/or on one or both of the detected pitch and roll angles of the vehicle (). Embodiments of the present invention provide apparatus () for controlling movement of a vehicle (), the apparatus comprising processing means () configured to: receive first signals from a receiving means () in dependence on received transmitted signals from a remote control device () indicating a requested motion of a vehicle (); receive one or more second signals indicative of a diagnostic device () being in operative communication with the vehicle (); and provide an output signal for controlling movement of the vehicle () in dependence on the requested motion. A method () of controlling an internal combustion engine () of a vehicle (), comprising: receiving at least one input () indicative of a current external environment proximal to the vehicle (); determining () in dependence on the at least one input () whether a hazard is present; determining a current propulsion demand () of the vehicle (); if it is determined that the current propulsion demand () is low, either commanding switching of the internal combustion engine () to an off state () if it is determined that a hazard is not present, or not commanding switching of the internal combustion engine () to the off state if it is determined that a hazard is present; and if it is determined that the current propulsion demand () is high, commanding switching of the internal combustion engine () to an on state if the internal combustion engine () is in the off state.

Methods for controlling stopping and starting of an engine

A control system for a motor vehicle includes a central tire inflation system (CTIS) electronic controller, the CTIS controller being configured to control the CTIS to cause inflation and deflation of one or more tires, the CTIS controller being configured to cause the CTIS to operate in a selected one of a plurality of operating modes in each of which the system is configured to set a pressure of one or more tires of the vehicle to a predetermined tire pressure value, the CTIS controller being configured to receive data indicative of a type of tire fitted to the vehicle, the controller being configured to prevent operation in a predetermined at least one of the plurality of operating modes in dependence on the data indicative of tire type.

Control system, vehicle and method

A motor vehicle control system that includes a first user-operable transmission selector for selecting a transmission operating mode and a user-operable gear selector, such as paddle input controls. The gear selector is operable in a first functional mode to select between a plurality of forward direction gear ratios. The gear selector is also operable in a second functional mode to select between a forward direction and reverse direction. This allows a user to use the gear selector to control travel in forward and reverse directions.

Vehicle control system and method

A central tire inflation system for a vehicle having a plurality of inflation control valves for controlling inflation of a respective tire, a first gas source for supplying pressurized gas to the inflation control valves, a first gas inlet valve for controlling the supply of gas from the first gas source to a fluid gallery, and a plurality of gallery outlet valves each arranged to control gas flow between the fluid gallery and a respective tire supply line that supplies gas from the fluid gallery to the inflation control valve. The gallery has two gallery pressure sensors for measuring a pressure of gas in the gallery. An electronic controller performs a gallery pressure sensor check that involves, with the gallery outlet valves and first gas inlet valve closed, causing the gallery exhaust valve to open and monitoring the pressure in the gallery according to each of the gallery pressure sensors.

A controller for a motor vehicle central tire inflation system. The controller causes the system to operate in a selected one of a plurality of operating modes that include a leakage assist mode in which the controller causes the system to inflate the tires to predetermined leakage assist pressure value. The controller is configured automatically to cause the system to assume the leakage assist mode in dependence at least in part on a first pressure signal indicative of the pressure of one or more tires, wherein when the system determines that a tire is suffering leakage the system is configured to establish a gas flow path between the tire and a remote pressure sensor and to measure a pressure of gas in the tire by means of the remote pressure sensor by reference to a second pressure signal indicative of a pressure measured by the remote pressure sensor.

Controller for a motor vehicle and method

A processor for controlling operation of a central tire inflation system (CTIS) to change a tire pressure of a tire of a vehicle is configured to control the CTIS to inflate or deflate the tire to a predetermined tire pressure which is above a target tire pressure for the tire. The processor then controls the CTIS to deflate the tire until the target tire pressure is reached. In this manner, a second tire inflation operation to achieve the target tire pressure in the tire can be avoided.

Central tire inflation system

A system comprising a speed controller configured to generate a speed controller powertrain signal in order to cause a powertrain to develop drive torque and cause a vehicle to operate in accordance with a target speed value. The system generates a signal indicative of a rate of acceleration of the vehicle, and is configured to command a powertrain to develop an amount of positive drive torque according to the speed controller powertrain signal in dependence at least in part on the signal indicative of the rate of acceleration of the vehicle.

Control system and method

A vehicle comprises a system for aiding driver control of the vehicle when the vehicle is wading in a body of water, the system comprising a measurement apparatus for determining a measured depth of water in which the vehicle is wading. The measurement apparatus is positioned and arranged relative to the vehicle such that the measured depth is indicative of the depth of water in a first measurement region relative to the actual vehicle. The processor is coupled to the measurement apparatus and is configured to calculate an estimated water depth in dependence upon the measured depth and in dependence upon the vehicle speed.

Embodiments of the present invention provide a system comprising: a first controller operable to assume one of a plurality of respective states, in a first state the first controller being configured automatically to cause a powertrain to develop drive torque and cause a vehicle to operate in accordance with a target speed value, the first controller being configured to receive a door state indicator signal indicative of whether a door is in an open or closed state, and an occupant presence indicator signal indicative of whether an occupant is present in a given seat of a vehicle, the system being configured not to permit operation of the first controller in the first state in dependence on the door state indicator signal and the occupant presence indicator signal.
