Fluid processing assemblies and methods are provided for mononuclear cell collection. Mononuclear cells are separated from red blood cells in a blood separation chamber, with the mononuclear cells and then the red blood cells exiting the chamber via an outlet port. The mononuclear cells and then the red blood cells enter an outlet flow path that is in fluid communication with a mononuclear cell collection container. The outlet flow path includes a visual indicium, which an operator may use to determine the position of the red blood cells within the outlet flow path and when to end mononuclear cell collection by preventing fluid communication between the outlet flow path and the mononuclear cell collection container.

Systems and methods for collecting mononuclear cells

A distributed computing system for managing blood collection procedures in a blood collection facility includes a system server including a memory and a communication interface, the system server configured to store data identifiers for a plurality of different human operators. A plurality of computerized blood collection instruments are configured to collect blood from donors to generate collected products, each blood collection instrument comprising a communication interface configured to transmit data regarding the blood collection instrument to the system server. The system server stores data identifiers for each blood collection instrument. A computer is coupled to the system server and configured to present a dashboard for improving operational performance at and/or across blood collection facilities. The dashboard displays procedure data, data regarding the plurality of different human operators and data tracking each operator's activities or performance on a display.

Computing system for blood processing procedures

A fluid processing system includes a fluid processing device and a fluid flow circuit. The device includes a pump configured to convey a priming fluid through the circuit. The pressure in a conduit of the circuit is measured while the pump is operated at a particular rate. When the magnitude of the pressure is less than the magnitude of a predetermined pressure at the end of a time interval, the pump is operated at an increased rate. When the magnitude of the pressure is greater than the magnitude of the predetermined pressure at the end of the time interval, the pump is instead operated at a decreased rate. The magnitude of the pressure in the conduit is again compared to the magnitude of the predetermined pressure after the pump has operated at the increased or decreased rate for the time interval to determine how to next adjust the operational rate.

A distributed computing system for managing blood processing procedures in a blood processing facility has a system server, a plurality of computerized blood collection instruments and a computer. The system server stores data identifiers for different human operators. The blood collection instruments collect blood components from donors to generate collected products. Each instrument transmits data regarding the instrument to the system server, the system server storing data identifiers for each instrument. The computer presents the data regarding the blood collection instruments on a display and receives assignments of different donors to different blood collection instruments from a human administrator.

Blood treatment systems and methods are provided for combining a blood separation system and an adsorption device. The blood separation system is configured to separate a blood component from blood, while the adsorption device is configured to receive at least a portion of the separated blood component and process it. The blood separation system includes a fluid flow element and a controller. The fluid flow element is configured for flowing the separated blood component into the adsorption device. The controller controls the fluid flow element based at least in part on one or more processing parameters. The processing parameters include a maximum flow rate of the separated blood component flowed into the adsorption device, a maximum pressure of the separated blood component flowed into the adsorption device, and/or the volume of fluid in a location of the system.

A handheld computing device has a touch screen display and a processing circuit to provide an icon associated with an executable application on a first display screen, the icon configured to be positioned along with icons for other executable applications on the first display screen. The processing circuit is to retrieve an indication of a need for a particular blood component, wherein the particular blood component is selected from the group comprising whole blood, double red cells and plasma. The processing circuit is to provide the indication of the need for a particular blood component to the display. A system and method for collecting whole blood from blood donors includes first and second whole blood collection devices disposed at different blood donation centers. A remote server computer is in communication with the blood collection devices. The whole blood collection devices transfer donation procedure information to the remote server. A method of collecting mononuclear cells includes separating plasma from cellular components of whole blood. The cellular components, which include mononuclear cells and red blood cells, are combined with plasma replacement fluid to form a first mixture. The mononuclear cells of the first mixture are separated from the red blood cells of the first mixture, which may be followed by extracorporeal photopheresis being performed on the mononuclear cells.

Blood separation systems and methods are provided for separating blood under conditions of reduced plasma clarity. The system may assess plasma clarity by monitoring light transmissivity of plasma or comparing an actual plasma flow rate to an ideal plasma flow rate, with a low flow rate indicating decreased clarity, which may be addressed by increasing the plasma flow rate. For extracorporeal photopheresis, plasma clarity may be a factor in determining the dosage of irradiating light to apply to mononuclear cells. A fluid processing assembly for mononuclear cell collection may include visual indicium, which an operator may use to determine when to end mononuclear cell collection. The system may detect red blood cells flowing toward a mononuclear cell collection container and reverse the direction of flow to prevent red blood cells from entering the container. An operator may also be enabled to selectively begin and/or end harvesting of mononuclear cells.

Systems and methods for separating blood under conditions of reduced plasma clarity

A distributed computing system for managing blood processing procedures in a blood processing facility includes a system server, a plurality of computerized blood collection instruments, a network, a reception staff computer and an administrative level computer, with operations distributed among the various computing devices. The system server stores data identifiers for a plurality of different human operators. The computerized blood collection instruments collect blood components from donors to generate collected products and transmit real-time data regarding the blood collection instrument to the system server. The reception staff computer intakes donor data and uploads the donor data to the system server. The administrative level computer presents the donor data and the real-time data regarding the blood collection instruments on a display and receives assignments of different donors to different blood collection instruments from a human administrator.

A method of collecting mononuclear cells, comprising separating whole blood into cellular components and platelets suspended in plasma, separating the platelets suspended in plasma into platelet concentrate and platelet-poor plasma, combining the cellular components with the platelet-poor plasma to form a first mixture, and separating the first mixture into mononuclear cells and at least one component.
