A cosmetic package has a sheet material pouch defining a product storage chamber, a neck member with a passage to the storage chamber, a cap on the neck member to close the passage and an applicator wand extending from the cap through the passage into the storage chamber. The pouch is securely attached to the neck member by way of pairs of horizontally extending wedges. The wedges form opposite outwardly directed, semi-elliptical bonding surfaces that intersect at an acute angle. The semi-elliptical bonding surfaces allow the sheet material of the pouch to transition smoothly about the neck member, such that the material can be reliably and imperviously secured to the neck member.

The present invention is a flow-thru cosmetic dispenser and applicator that comprises a means for controlling the flow of product from a reservoir to an applicator tip. The flow control means comprises wedge structures attached to biased hinges. The wedge structures move on the hinges in response to the removal or placement of a closure. The movement of the wedges alternately opens and pinches-off a deformable conduit in which the product flows. The invention includes means for converting any ordinary cosmetic container into a flow-thru container.

A printed template and method for using the template are illustrated for evaluating various characteristics of eyelashes and categorizing the eyelashes accordingly. The template has one edge portion suitable for placement adjacent an eyelid under eyelashes. The edge portion is provided with indicia representing known eyelash characteristics such as density, thickness, length or color. The indicia on the template are placed adjacent actual eyelashes such that a visual comparison can be made between the eyelashes and the indicia. By comparing the eyelashes to the indicia, a user can more objectively determine the measurements and characteristics of the eyelashes.

A cosmetic package has a pouch container insert in an outer shell. The pouch container insert includes all of the elements required to make the cosmetic applicator device functional, i.e., a pouch container defining a product storage chamber, a neck member with a passage to the storage chamber, a cap on the neck member to close the passage and an applicator wand extending from the cap through the passage into the storage chamber. In addition, the neck member includes a flange adapted to connect the pouch container to the package outer shell. The flange has outwardly projecting teeth that engage the outer shell to prevent rotation of the insert with respect to the outer shell. The flange may be modified to adapt it to different outer shells. Thus, the insert is adaptable to outer shells having a variety of different shapes and materials. Because the insert includes all of the essential elements of a cosmetic package, it can be manufactured, filled and sealed apart from the outer shell, and subsequently assembled with any one of a variety of outer shells. In addition, the insert may be provided with an elastic annular ring, preferably in the form of an upwardly directed skirt mounted about the wand and positioned at a location along a length of the wand corresponding to a point between first end and the second end of the neck when the cap is engaged on the second end. The ring is sized and biased with respect to the passage such that compression in the chamber is released as the ring is pushed in the passage toward the chamber and a vacuum is generated in the chamber as the ring is withdrawn in the passage away from the chamber. This vacuum causes the pouch container to collapse a predetermined amount each time the wand is withdrawn from the passage.

The present invention is an eyeliner applicator and method of using the applicator. The applicator comprises two arms, each arm having a proximal and a distal end. The proximal ends of the arms are supported such that the distal ends of the arms are maintained in a spaced apart relationship. An applicator surface extends from the distal end of one arm to the distal end of the other arm. The proximal ends of the arms may be connected directly to each other or to an intermediary member. Optionally, a handle may depend from the arms or the intermediary member. Optionally, the applicator surface is treated in any of various ways to enhance its functioning. Optionally, a stabilizing member is provided for bracing the applicator against the body during application. Optionally, a supply of applicator surface material is provided to allow the applicator surface to be replaced between applications.

Eyeliner applicator

A mascara applicator is disclosed that comprises a conventional twisted wire core brush with a plurality of radially extending bristles regularly disposed in a first orientation. A cylindrically configured helix is twisted onto the brush around the wire core such that the brush bristles extend radially between successive loops of the helix. The helix moves at least some of the bristles to a second orientation such that one or more characteristics of the brush may be altered. Characteristics of the original brush that may be altered include mascara retention, mascara application and combing characteristics, as well as the appearance of the brush. The dimensions of the helix, the pitch of the helix and the thickness of the helix body are each pre-selected to yield the desired characteristics in the finished brush.

A multi-piston, ratcheted dispensing device for cosmetic and pharmaceutical formulations comprising a hollow body, the body being interiorly divided into at least two channels; a ratchet cup for applying force to at least two ratcheting members, each ratcheting member being in rigid contact with one of at least two pistons, each piston being disposed within the channels; at least one recoil member for biasing the ratchet cup away from the pistons; exit orifices disposed within the body; and, optionally, conductors for directing the dispensed product, sealing mechanisms to prevent dry-out of the product and an actuator.

Multi-piston, ratcheted dispensing device

A mechanical twist-dispenser having a plurality of product compartments within a housing, a rotatable screw member axially disposed within each product compartment, and a piston axially slidably disposed within each product compartment. The piston has a central threaded aperture which cooperates with the screw member to move the piston axially within its product compartment with the relative rotation of its associated screw member. A master gear is positioned between and contacts each screw member gear such that the rotation of the master gear causes the screw member to rotate and subsequently move the piston axially within the product compartment so as to dispense the product within each compartment.
