A nonlinear parametric device includes a planar substrate and a millimeter-wave resonator formed from superconductive material deposited on the planar substrate. When the resonator is cooled below a critical temperature, it exhibits nonlinear kinetic inductance that may be used to implement millimeter-wave nonlinear frequency generation and parametric amplification. Millimeter waves may be coupled into, and out of, the nonlinear parametric device with hollow rectangular electromagnetic waveguides. Niobium nitride is an excellent superconductive material for kinetic inductance due to its high intrinsic sheet inductance, a critical temperature that is higher than many other superconductive materials, and relatively low loss at millimeter-wave frequencies.

A millimeter-wave resonator is produced by drilling a plurality of holes into a piece of metal. Each hole forms an evanescent tube having a lowest cutoff frequency. The holes spatially intersect to form a seamless three-dimensional cavity whose fundamental cavity mode has a resonant frequency that is less than the cutoff frequencies of all the evanescent tubes. Below cutoff, the fundamental cavity mode does not couple to the waveguide modes, and therefore has a high internal Q. Millimeter waves can be coupled into any of the tubes to excite an evanescent mode that couples to the fundamental cavity mode. The tubes also provide spatial and optical access for transporting atoms into the cavity, where they can be trapped while spatially overlapping the fundamental cavity mode. The piece of metal may be superconducting, allowing the resonator to be used in a cryogenic environment for quantum computing and information processing.

Millimeter-wave resonator and associated methods

This disclosure generally relates to a system and method for assessing reading quality during a reading session. In one embodiment, system is disclosed that analyzes speech that corresponds to a reading session for the duration of the reading session, the consistency of the reading sessions, the speed of the speech during the reading session, the engagement level of the parent during the reading session, and the environment in which the reading session takes place in another embodiment, a method is disclosed for calculating an objective score for a reading session, communicating the score to a parent, and providing suggestions and challenges for improving future reading sessions.

Method and system for assessing reading quality

This disclosure generally relates to a word counting device. Specifically, this disclosure generally relates to a wearable word counter device. The word counter device includes a microphone to receive speech input. The word counter device further includes a light sensor to receive data representative of an amount of light in an environment of the word counter device. The word counter device also includes an accelerometer to receive data representative of an amount of movement of the word counter device or the wearer of the word counter device.
