An adapter assembly for connecting an end effector to an electrosurgical instrument is provided. The adapter assembly includes a drive transfer assembly, first and second pusher assemblies, a drive member, an extension assembly, and a trocar assembly. The drive transfer assembly includes first, second and third rotatable shafts. Each pusher assembly is operably connected to a rotatable shaft for converting rotational motion from one rotatable shaft to longitudinal movement to perform a different function. The drive member is operably connected to the third rotatable shaft for transferring rotational motion from the third rotatable shaft to perform a third function. The extension assembly is operably connected to a distal end of the adapter assembly and includes at least one flexible band assembly operably connected to one of the first and second pusher assemblies. The trocar assembly is configured for releasable engagement with the extension assembly.

Adapter, extension, and connector assemblies for surgical devices

An adapter assembly for connecting a loading unit to a handle assembly includes a sleeve, a trocar assembly releasably securable with the sleeve, and a retaining mechanism configured to releasably secure the trocar assembly within the sleeve and to facilitate cleaning and sterilizing of the adapter assembly. The retaining mechanism includes first and second button members and a mechanism for maintaining the first and second button members relative to each other.

An apparatus for cleaning a surgical instrument includes an elongate member having a first end and a second end configured for disposal within a cavity of a surgical instrument. The elongate member defines a longitudinal channel and a plurality of apertures extending transversely through the elongate member. The apertures are in communication with the longitudinal channel. The first end of the elongate member is configured to be coupled to a source of fluid such that fluid passes through the longitudinal channel and out of the elongate member through the plurality of apertures.

Cleaning apparatus for surgical instruments

A chip assembly for use in a surgical stapler is provided. The chip assembly includes a housing assembly and a plug assembly. The housing assembly includes a base member, seal member, and a circuit board assembly. The base member defines a cavity for receipt of the circuit board assembly and the seal member is configured to be received about an open end of the base member. The plug assembly is configured to selectively engage the open end of the base member. The plug assembly includes a plug member and first and second contact members extending from the plug member. The first and second contact members are configured to be received within the cavity defined by the base member and engage the circuit board assembly when the plug assembly engages the housing assembly.

Chip assembly for reusable surgical instruments

An adapter assembly for connecting an end effector to an actuation assembly is provided. The adapter assembly a base defining a plurality of notches spaced at least partially about a circumference of the base, a handle supported on the base and rotatable about a longitudinal axis of the base, and a latch mechanism supported on the handle assembly and selectively engageable with the base. The latch mechanism includes a latch member and a locking member. The latch member is movable between a first position in which the locking member is received within one of the plurality of notches to lock the handle relative to the base, and a second position in which the locking member is spaced from the plurality of notches to unlock the handle relative to the base.

Adapter assemblies for surgical devices

A surgical instrument system is disclosed, the system including a first component and a second component, the first component being a reload assembly and the second component being selected from a group consisting of a handle assembly and an adapter assembly, the surgical instrument system including at least one chip assembly having a housing assembly on the first component, the housing assembly containing a chip, and a plug assembly on the second component, the chip having data for, and being configured to, prevent use of the reload assembly if the reload assembly is unauthorized.

A surgical device is provided. The surgical device includes: a jaw assembly comprising a first jaw and a second jaw moveable relative to the first jaw and an elongated body removably coupled to a proximal end of the jaw assembly. The elongated body includes an actuation bar movable upon engagement of the jaw assembly with the elongated body to secure the jaw assembly thereto; a release button coupled to the actuation bar such that the release button is movable by the actuation bar upon engagement of the jaw assembly with the elongated body and the release button is configured to move the actuation bar to allow for removal of the jaw assembly from the elongated body; and a lockout button in mechanical cooperation with the release button, the lockout button configured to prevent actuation of the release button.

A locking shipping wedge is provided and generally includes a body portion having an elongate transverse member projecting from the body portion which is engageable with a drive assembly of a loading unit. A locking mechanism is provided on the body portion of the shipping wedge which is engageable with locking structure movably mounted within the loading unit.

A cartridge shipping aid is provided to retain staples within staple pockets of a staple cartridge during shipment. The cartridge shipping aid includes a base and a longitudinal rib extending perpendicularly from an underside of the base and indiscernible into a knife slot formed in a staple cartridge. One or more perpendicular keys are formed along a lower edge of the longitudinally extending rib for engagement with an underside surface of the staple cartridge. The cartridge shipping aid may additionally include sidewalls projecting perpendicularly from outer edges of the base. Projections are formed on one end of the base for engagement with associate detents formed on the staple cartridge. Grasping structure is formed adjacent one end of the base and longitudinal rib.
