A mobile network solution provides secure and portable wireless networking service to mobile users with devices equipped with wireless network interfaces. The Secure Nomadic Wireless Network, or SNOWNET, follows a hierarchical approach. Special SNOWNET nodes are deployed in the area where networking service is needed and form a backbone network. At the same time, SNOWNET nodes provide local access service to regular mobile clients. SNOWNET provides security through authentication of the nodes and clients, as well as through encryption of the data.

Methods and apparatus for secure, portable, wireless and multi-hop data networking

A security management approach that combines network security management with application layer or software service security to address the threat of internal network security attacks. The invention is directed to a method for enhancing network security on a computer network. Data access privileges relating to users and services are interpreted, network access rules are determined based on the interpreted privileges, and network message traffic is monitored and filtered based on the determined network access rules. The interpreting, determining, monitoring, and filtering are performed at a network layer responsible for controlling how a network device gains access to the network, such as the Media Access Control (MAC) layer.

Method, apparatus, and computer program product for enhancing computer network security

A wireless computer network includes a backbone network including backbone network nodes authenticated to each other and in communication with each other. The wireless computer network also includes a master authenticator node and a proxy authenticator node among the backbone network nodes. When an unauthenticated new node requests authentication to the backbone network and the unauthenticated new node is in communication with at least one of the backbone network nodes, the at least one of the backbone network nodes becoming the proxy authenticator node for the unauthenticated new node and communicates with the master authenticator node to authenticate the unauthenticated new node to the backbone network.

Apparatus, method, and medium for self-organizing multi-hop wireless access networks

A method of mapping transmission stations in a wireless network by grouping the transmission stations such that each transmission station in the same group transmits a sounding signal in the same time symbol. A method of grouping transmission stations in a wireless network includes sorting the transmission stations in descending order according to a number of transmission links of each transmission station that are unmapped, evaluating each transmission station based on how many unmapped transmission links can be mapped if the evaluated transmission station is made to transmit a sounding signal, placing each transmission station into a group, based on the evaluation, until all of the transmission links are mapped or until the maximum number of sounding bands are used, and, if all of the transmission links are not mapped, repeating the sorting, evaluating, and placing for each time symbol until all of the transmission links are mapped.

Method of grouping and mapping transmission stations in a wireless network

A method for implementing a mobile trusted platform module includes establishing a connection with a first remote host device via a remote interface. The method also includes authenticating the connection. The method further includes, upon authenticating the connection, allowing the first remote host device to access a securely stored first application within a mobile trusted platform module.

According to one embodiment, a method for wireless communication comprises providing, at a base station, a plurality of endpoints with access to a wireless network. The method also comprises the base station entering a low power mode, wherein the base station ceases to provide the plurality of endpoints with access to the wireless network while in the low power mode. In addition, the method comprises the base station transitioning to an active mode from the low power mode during a first predetermined time, wherein the first predetermined time is identified by the base station and at least one endpoint before the base station transitions to the active mode. Further, if the base station receives a request to access the wireless network from at least one endpoint after transitioning to the active mode during a second predetermined time, the method comprises the base station remaining in the active mode. If the base station does not receive a request to access the wireless network from at least one endpoint after transitioning to the active mode during the second predetermined time, the method comprises the base station transitioning to the low power mode.

System and method for incorporating a low power mode in wireless communication

In one embodiment, a method for wireless communication includes providing, at a base station, access to a network to a preferred endpoint during a first communication session. In addition, the method includes determining, at the base station, to treat the preferred endpoint as preferred. The method also includes causing, at the base station, at least one parameter regarding the preferred endpoint used to establish the first communication session to be stored in response to determining to treat the preferred endpoint as preferred. In addition, the method includes receiving, at the base station, a request for a second communication session after the first communication session has ended. Further, the method includes determining, at the base station, that the request for the second communication session was sent by the preferred endpoint. The method also includes retrieving, at the base station, the stored at least one parameter in response to determining that the preferred endpoint sent the request for the second communication session. Moreover, the method includes utilizing, at the base station, the retrieved at least one parameter to establish the second communication session with the preferred endpoint. The method also includes providing, at the base station, access to the network to the preferred endpoint during the second communication session.

System and method for accelerated network entrance

A method for implementing an external trusted platform module includes establishing a connection with a remote host device via a remote interface. The method also includes receiving and processing a request for a trusted platform module (TPM) function from the remote host device via the remote interface. The method additionally includes generating a response to the request for the TPM function based on the processing of the request for the TPM function received from the remote host device. The method further includes sending the response to the request for the TPM function to the remote host device via the remote interface.

Method and system for implementing an external trusted platform module

In one embodiment, a method for wireless communication includes providing, at a base station, access to a network to a preferred endpoint. The method includes sending, at the base station, at least one cryptographic parameter to the preferred endpoint. In addition, the method includes receiving, at the base station, a plurality of ranging codes from the preferred endpoint. The plurality of ranging codes are received after the base station has ceased providing the preferred endpoint access to the network. Also, the method includes determining, at the base station, that the plurality of received ranging codes correspond to a plurality of ranging codes of a predetermined set of ranging codes. The predetermined set of ranging codes is determined utilizing the at least one cryptographic parameter. Further, the method includes providing, at the base station, an entrance to the network to the preferred endpoint in response to determining that the plurality of received ranging codes correspond to the plurality of ranging codes of the predetermined set of ranging codes.

System and method for enhanced network entrance into a wireless network

A system for implementing a multi-radio wireless network includes a plurality of endpoints wirelessly coupled to a relay station. The system also includes a base station wirelessly coupled to the relay station. The relay station includes a first radio operable to use a first channel to communicate with the base station. The relay station also includes a second radio operable to use a second channel to communicate with the plurality of endpoints. The relay station further includes a processor coupled to the first radio and the second radio. The processor is operable to relay data between the base station and the plurality of endpoints.

System and method for implementing a multi-radio wireless network

The embodiments provide transmitting at same time first and relay second node preambles aligning data frames among the first node and the relay second node wirelessly communicating in a channel and transmitting by the first node one or more radio resource control parameters managing radio resources of the wireless communicating in the channel among the aligned first node and the relay second node. A relay resynchronization amble sequence managing synchronizing in the channel the first node frames with the relay second node frames is periodically transmitted to the relay second node.

The measured interference levels are mapped by building a first matrix including noise plus interference occurring at each of the one or more stations, respectively, and scheduled transmissions at predetermined times by each relay station respectively are mapped by building a second matrix. The first matrix and the second matrix are multiplied in order to determine the noise plus interference impact upon each base station by each relay station so that a network schedule can be generated in order to increase bandwidth efficiency in the network.

Interference measuring and mapping method and apparatus for wireless networks using relay stations

A scheduler and a method schedule available power and bandwidth to users. Equations for a continuous bandwidth allocation of a total bandwidth, and/or a continuous power distribution of a total power, are set up using Lagrangian multipliers to include constraints in a function that is maximum when a fair capacity is maximum. The continuous bandwidth allocation and/or the continuous power distribution represent sets of values corresponding to users that maximize the function. The equations are solved using waterfilling methods, wherein the continuous power distribution is determined for a previously determined bandwidth allocation, and/or the continuous bandwidth allocation is calculated for a previously determined power distribution.
