The present teachings describe a printhead assembly. The printhead assembly includes a first plate and a second plate stacked together. The printhead assembly includes a first adhesive between the first plate and the second plate for bonding the plates together. The printhead assembly includes a second adhesive surrounding an outer edge of the first adhesive wherein the second adhesive has an oxygen migration rate lower than an oxygen migration rate of the first adhesive. An oxygen sensitive component is contained within the outer edge of the first adhesive.

A print head has a jet stack, a jet stack heating and temperature measuring element thermally connected to the jet stack, the jet stack heating and temperature measuring element including: a first, etched copper layer having heat spreading characteristics and including a resistive heat source electrically connected in series to a voltage source and a switch; an electrically insulative on a back side of the first copper layer; and a second, etched copper layer on a side of the electrically insulative layer opposite the first copper layer, the second copper layer having a temperature sensing element to sense a temperature of the print head without a thermistor, the temperature sensing element connected in series with a voltage source and a transistor. A print head may use a thermistor but the heat spreading layer eliminates the need for a heat sink to attach to the print head.

Systems and methods for heating and measuring temperature of print head jet stacks

An inkjet printing system, including an inlet in a print head to receive ink from an ink supply, a plurality of nozzles to eject ink in the print head, an ink pressure sensor disposed in an ink path, the ink pressure sensor configured to determine an ink pressure of the ink in the print head and output a signal indicating the ink pressure, and a controller in the print head configured to receive and process the signal indicating the ink pressure from the ink pressure sensor. The inkjet printing system may also include a memory to store an ink pressure and time profile. The controller may also output a signal to stop ejecting ink from the plurality of nozzles when the ink pressure is either below a negative threshold or above a positive threshold.

A print head includes a substrate having a hole, a circuit on the substrate, the circuit having traces and a hole corresponding to the hole in the substrate, the hole forming a fluid path, and a raised structure on the substrate around the fluid path, the raised structure positioned to seal the circuit from the fluid path.

Print head jet stack heating and temperature measurement systems and methods are disclosed that both heat the jet stack and determine a temperature of the jet stack. The heating and temperature determination are performed by a flex circuit that includes multiple layers. One of the layers heats the jet stack and another one of the layers provides data that determines the temperature of the jet stack. The heating layer and the temperature sensing layer are separated by an insulative material in the flex circuit. The temperature of the jet stack can be sent to a print head controller that then determines whether to increase or decrease the temperature of the jet stack.

A print head has an ink reservoir to hold ink, the reservoir having protrusions, an external manifold coupled to the ink reservoir, the ink manifold having channels on a first surface that match the protrusions, and an adhesive in the channels to contact the protrusions. A method of assembling a print head includes mounting a jet stack to a flat plate of a merge fixture, dispensing adhesive on an external manifold attached to the jet stack, placing a reservoir in the merge fixture above the external manifold such that the reservoir does not contact the adhesive, attaching an upper plate to the reservoir to set a depth, pressing the reservoir into the adhesive, and curing the adhesive.

Protrusions are positioned on the inner surfaces of a channel within a printhead body or member to control the size and location of bubble formation. An inkjet printhead includes a member having a first opening and a second opening to enable melted ink to enter the channel at the first opening and flow through the channel to the second opening. At least one protrusion extends from the member into the channel to position a portion of the protrusion into melted ink in the channel to form a dominant stress concentration in the melted ink.

System and method for controlling air bubble formation in solid inkjet printer ink flow paths

A fluidic structure has a first chamber having a connection to a fluid reservoir and a connection to an array of apertures, the chamber forming a flow path between the fluid reservoir and the array of apertures, a second chamber having a connection to at least one vent connected to an atmosphere external to the fluidic structure, and at least one path between the first chamber and the second chamber.

The disclosed print head has a two-chamber main reservoir that decouples wasted ink and purge volume in print heads. The two-chamber structure of the print head allows for varying flow of ink through the print head's internal manifolds without varying the wasted ink out of the jet stack. The main reservoir of the print head includes a recirculation chamber and an incoming ink chamber. A vacuum is applied to a vent in the recirculation chamber and a pressure can also be applied to a vent in the incoming ink chamber to cause bubbles in the jet stack to move into the recirculation chamber and be removed through the recirculation chamber vent.

An electrical interconnect has an adhesive layer in which is formed an array of apertures, the apertures being of non-circular shape. An electrical circuit apparatus has a first circuit having at least one electrical contact, a second circuit having at least one electrical contact aligned to the electrical contact of the first circuit, and a standoff structure between the first and second circuits having at least one aperture aligned to one electrical contact of the first and second circuits, the aperture being of a non-circular shape.

A fluid dispensing assembly has a fluid reservoir, a reservoir structure having at least one opening corresponding to a location of at least one fluid chamber in the reservoir structure, and a compliant film arranged to seal the opening and flex in response to pressure fluctuations in the fluid chamber. A system has a fluid supply, a fluid dispensing assembly having a fluid reservoir to receive fluid from the fluid supply, the fluid dispensing assembly having a reservoir structure with at least one opening corresponding to at least one fluid chamber, and a compliant film arranged to cover the opening such that a side of the film contacts fluid in the chamber and a side opposite the side contacting the fluid contacts air and is arranged to allow the film to flex.

An inkjet external ink manifold is provided that allows for use of a jet stack that does not internally contain ink manifolds. The external ink manifold has a manifold body that includes one or more ink manifold chambers and includes ports arranged to connect the chambers to one or more ink reservoirs. The external ink manifold further includes an adhesive layer overlying and sealing the ink manifold chambers. The adhesive layer includes a plurality of ports arranged to connect the external ink manifold chambers to the jet stack.
