The present invention is an improvement to a computer system for processing, storing and searching DICOM medical imaging objects and non-DICOM files. The improvement is the addition of a directory manager, a user interface and a search manager that allows users to define a hierarchy of directories that link to both DICOM and non-DICOM files. Contents of files are indexed, including metadata so they are searchable. The system automatically creates directories representing DICOM series and studies by analyzing metadata in DICOM image files DICOM devices can send DICOM data directly to directories in the file system using the DICOM protocol.

File system for medical images and data

A system for de-identifying images and metadata containing personal information. A clinical subsystem connects to a clinical picture archiving and communication system (PACS) containing image data including metadata with personal information. The clinical subsystem includes an image data editor for de-identifying image data by deleting or altering the personal information in the image data according to instructions specified in a de-identification script. The de-identification subsystem includes an image metadata database and runs an edit script generator that can be used by a user to generate a de-identification script based on metadata stored in the image metadata database, without access to the associated image data.

Research picture archiving communications system

A system for efficiently displaying medical data to a user. For one or more of the image series, the system displays a thumbnail image representing the image series in a secondary segment of a display. In response to a selection of one of the displayed thumbnail images the system displays in the secondary segment a positioning grid with multiple sections, each section representing a section of a separate primary segment of the display that does not overlap the secondary segment. In response to a selection of one of the sections in the positioning grid the system updates the display to cause an image in the image series corresponding to the selected thumbnail image to be displayed in the section of the primary segment of the display represented by the selected section of the positioning grid.
