Methods, systems, and techniques for creating, managing, and using query templates to facilitate the execution of relationship queries are provided. Example embodiments provide a Query Template System 'QTS', which enables users, a system, program code, or other people or code to define search tips (i.e., predefined searches) through the generation of query templates that can be used by other users or code, to perform relationship searches using IQL. In one embodiment, the QTS includes a QT editor, a QT dispatcher, a QT creation and index management system, and one or more QT data repositories and indexes. These components cooperate to create and maintain query templates and to search for and retrieve matching query templates. Query templates and labeled search tip system, methods, and techniques

Enhanced computer- and network-based methods, systems, techniques are provided for retrieving more accurate and responsive search results when searching content for a designated entity using an off-the-shelf keyword-based search engine. For example, the embodiments described herein may be used to improve search results by eliminating off-topic results when presenting queries to an existing keyword-based search engine invoked by means of an API from an intermediating application. Example embodiments provide a Keyword-Based Search Enhancement System ('KBSES'), which enables intermediating applications to obtain information more closely related to user queries by enhancing such queries, on behalf of the user, with disambiguating information when deemed necessary. Based upon a variety of rules and heuristics, which can be modified as well, the KBSES determines whether an entity name in a user's query should be enhanced with additional disambiguating information, and to what extent, to prevent the retrieval of off-topic results.

Keyword-based search engine results using enhanced query strategies

A system for searching a network for network based content related to a search query, such as multimedia and streaming media, includes an adapter for formatting the search query, a first database containing previous search results and a second database for storing currently returnable metadata, a search processor, and at least one search engine kernel comprising a search engine inherent database. The search engine coordinates searching of the first database and the second database, and and provides the formatted search query to the search engine kernel. The search processor also provides and receives search results to and from the first database and the second database, and provides search results to the adapter. The system stores a predetermined amount of previous search results in the first database, such that search results for a current search are retrieved from the database, avoiding a search through search engine kernel, comprising searchable metadata.
