A laminated glazing has a first glass ply having first and second surfaces, a second glass ply having third and fourth surfaces, an obscuration band around at least a portion of the glazing periphery, the obscuration band having a sensor window and comprising first and second obscuration layers, the first obscuration layer adhered to at least a portion of the periphery of the first/second surface and comprising a first sensor window portion having a first sensor window portion optical distortion, the second obscuration layer adhered to at least a portion of the periphery of the third/fourth surface and comprising a second sensor window portion having a second sensor window portion optical distortion. first and second sensor window portion optical distortions are each controlled so the absolute magnitude of the optical distortion of the sensor window is lower than the absolute magnitude of the first and second sensor window optical distortions.

Laminated glazing and process

A switchable device for changing the opacity of at least a portion of a glazing is described. The switchable device comprises at least two (a first and a second) switchable regions in electrical communication with at least two (a first and a second) electrical connector regions. Each switchable region comprises an electrically actuated variable opacity layer between a first electrode and a second electrode, the first switchable region being arranged relative to the second switchable region such that upon connecting the first and second electrical connector regions to a suitable power supply, the opacity of the first and second switchable region changes such that at least two (a first and a second) portions of the switchable device have a change of opacity, the first portion of the switchable device having a different opacity to the second portion of the switchable device.

Switchable device

A laminated glazing comprises two plies of glass having an interlayer structure laminated therebetween. The interlayer structure comprises a first sheet of an interlayer material framing a suspended particle device film incorporated therein. The interlayer material is chosen to minimize the migration of the components of the interlayer material into the suspended particle device film. Preferably, the interlayer material does not contain plasticizers, or contains a plasticizer which does not diffuse into the suspended particle device film structure.

Glazing

An automotive vehicle having an aperture in the vehicle body in which a glazing, comprising a switchable film laminated between at least two plies of an interlayer material is fitted is disclosed. The plies of interlayer material are laminated between a first ply of glazing material, preferably glass, facing out of the vehicle and a second ply of glazing material, preferably glass, facing into the vehicle. The switchable film comprises first and second electrodes, both in electrical connection with a power supply. The first electrode is capacitively connected to electrical ground on the vehicle body.
