One-handed shovel

A tool blade for use with a handle includes a pan having a top surface and bottom surface opposite the top surface, the pan having a top edge and a cutting edge opposite the top edge and having a pair of opposed side edges extending between the top edge and the cutting edge. The top edge of the pan includes a handle sleeve defining a channel configured to receive an end of the handle. The bottom edge is integrally connected to the pan and is sharpened so as to penetrate a ground surface. A plurality of grating teeth is formed on the pan, each grating tooth having a scoop projecting outwardly from the pan and a cutout. A cutout traverses through the pan and defines an opening connecting the top and bottom surfaces. A respective scoop includes a portion partially covering the cutout and having an arcuate cutting edge.

A shovel apparatus for digging holes has an H-shaped frame providing at one end, a handle integrally joined to the frame, and at the other end, a blade mounting support. A pair of spaced apart shovel blades are pivotally engaged with the blade mounting support for drawing the blades from essentially parallel rest positions, toward each other, to form a modified cone-shaped enclosure. A draw arm assembly is engaged for sliding within a pair of opposing slots in the H-shaped frame. The draw arm assembly is engaged with the shovel blades through a pair of links to move the shovel blades toward each other when the draw arm assembly is pulled toward the handle.

Clamp action shovel for single hand operation

A wearable communication apparatus is in the form of a self-contained telephone headset that includes an integral antenna, stand-alone power supply and on-board electronics and circuitry for RF and I/R communication. The headset includes a mouthpiece that is rotatably mounted to a central housing that contains the bulk of the apparatus electronics. The mouthpiece includes an ear speaker and microphone, as well as the rechargeable power supply. The rotating end of the mouthpiece includes an array of electrical contacts that are configured to contact a complementary contact array on the central housing. The electrical contacts provide for the communication of electrical power and information between the mouthpiece and its components and the central housing and its components. The headset can be activated by rotation of the mouthpiece into its operative position and deactivated by rotation out of this position. In the deactivated position, the contact array on the mouthpiece can provided electrical communication with complementary contacts on a base unit. The base unit also provides means for integrating the headset into a local telephone network, The base unit can be connected to the network via a traditional landline, and communicate with the headset via an RF antenna. The headset includes voice recognition capabilities that allow the user to dial telephone numbers, access a memory of stored numbers, and direct certain headset functions simply by spoken commands.

Wearable telecommunications apparatus with voice/speech control features

A portable barcode and RF ID tag reader that gathers information about items to be purchased etc by reading barcodes or RF ID tags. A store host computer gathers information about items to be purchased from the portable barcode/ID Tag readers and then the items are bagged by the customer at the checkout stand or by employees of the store at the checkout stand or in a separate warehouse from which the customer picks up the order. The portable barcode/RF ID tag reader can also be used in authenticating articles by accessing a factory computer using a serial number for the article scanned from an RF ID tag on the article. The portable barcode/RF ID tag reader is comprised of a microprocessor coupled to a bar code reader, an RF ID tag reader, a spread spectrum RF transceiver, a communication port, an audible feedback device, a touchscreen or light pen and display, a thermal printer and a magnetic stripe card reader and a smart card reader.

Portable RF ID tag and barcode reader

A personal bar code scanning device for aiding shoppers in keeping track of their expenditures and speeding the process of check-out and taking advantage of coupons. A microprocessor coupled to a bar code reader, a communication port, an audible feedback device and a touchscreen or light pen and display combination carrys out bar code scanning in a store as a shopper shops. The user selects a shopping list from a collection of one or more shopping lists or creates a new list from a database or by spelling out the items to purchase on a keyboard. The user then downloads the store's current price list by modem or by connecting to the store computer when the store is entered. When the shopper wishes to purchase an item, the personal bar code scanning device is placed adjacent to the bar code on the package of the item and the user presses a button to scan the bar code. The bar code is then imaged by a CCD device, and the pattern of light and dark bars is decoded into an ASCII string which is stored in memory and compared to the current shopping list and the current price list. When a match is found, the display is changed to indicate the item scanned has been put in the basket. The price of the item is then added to the running total. In some embodiments, when the price list is downloaded, there is automatically downloaded a coupon list of items currently on sale. When an item is scanned, the ASCII identification string is compared to the coupon list, and, if a match is found, the discount from the coupon is automatically applied before updating the running total. In some embodiments, a magnetic security strip is used next to the bar code. The personal bar code scanner includes a pair of permanent magnets or electromagnets to generate a D.C. or nonvarying magnetic field which can envelope the magnetic security strip to deactivate it when an item has been scanned. This prevents the item from setting off security alarms when passing a security device at a store exit. In some embodiments, the Personal Scanner.TM. device is mounted on a shopping cart for use by user's who do not own their own devices.
